Oddly enough, my warm ups are sloppy garbage. Very squiggly, scratchy, unappealing, and unapologetic. After the warm up, I begin with some various hatching techniques, then I use my entire arm to get straight lines freehand. It takes time and I can't caffeine beforehand because my left hand has a slight tremor. There's something magical about those warm up drawings, they seem lively and human. But what he was saying about straight lines is true too. There's magic to them too. Think of your favorite clean line work (for me it's tattoos and their stencils). Otherworldly speed and fortune to you all! 😚💋

Zack, buddy...just keep that chin up. Really put your work out there. What aren't you doing? That's what you need to ask yourself. Be honest, be optimistic, but realistic. I have no idea how to crack into the industry, but if I had to guess---and based on all the answers pros have mentioned---there is no one right way. First, get your name and work emailed or placed in front of people in the industry. Find places to post your work. Ask them what they need from you specifically? Second, pay those dues. Work the crappy jobs until you get a real challenge thrown in front of you...one that makes you upset or stressed out, but the kind of job that gives you the credit you deserve for the sweat and tears put into it. Third, always have another side gig or new project lined up. This may be challenging, but really if you are a freelancer...you'll be used to it. Getting more work isn't that hard. Just be mature and responsible enough to get yourself out there and working. I'm sure you'll be famous within the industry in no time. (Some animators don't get paid well or get the recognition they deserve, so...keep that in mind too.) I wish you the best. Good luck and may it work well for you.

This was incredible. As someone who has wanted to get more technical but was lost as to how, this video gives a great understanding of how/where to start. I hope this inspires others to draw something they normally wouldn't.

I remember learning this back in my art school days. Many of the students called it the "Feng Zhu Method", since we were introduced to his work back then and his similar approach to vehicle design. It really helps out, and will certainly expand your skillset. Time to bust out the sketchbook!
