Today we travelled to Snowdonia and Tryfan to do the Tryfan North Ridge Scramble, a classic mountain day and one of the best mountains days in Snowdonia / Wales if not the whole UK.

Tryfan in Snowdonia is one of the best mountains in Wales, if not in the UK. We drove to Tryfan and completed the Tryfan North Ridge Scramble which is also sometimes mistakenly called Tryfan North Face.
The Tryfan North Ridge Scramble route is great for experienced hikers who want to up their game into scrambling and more complex mountaineering. After scrambling the North Ridge of Tryfan and getting to the summit, you can complete the famous Tryfan Adam and Eve jump - which is a leap of faith across the 2 great rocks on the summit of Tryfan - known as Adam and Eve. Although this can be dangerous, especially in bad weather, completing the Tryfan Adam and Eve jump (according to legend) gains you the Freedom of Tryfan and the protection of the mountain gods!
I hope you enjoy this Tryfan North Ridge Scramble video, and please subscribe to the channel for more outdoor adventures!

Best route description of the North Face I've ever watched. I have climbed 5 times . The first on my own, and almost killed myself... venturing too far to the left , insidiously easy to begin with.. and edging across the main eastern gulleys until popping up below Adam and Eve from the south side. Frightened to death! Subsequent trips has always been with others.... more fun and less of a self doubting-what- shall- I -do- now kind of scramble. As you say, it is almost impossible to do the same tactical route twice. And there's the fun! :)
@ManontheOutside

Thanks! Yeah I know what you mean about being frightened to death 😄, some pretty hairy scrambles on the east and west faces. We did the Notch Arete on the West Face a couple of years back, lovely route but pretty scary in parts. So easy to stray off onto those harder routes!

Climbed to the summit of Tryfan a few months ago via the South Ridge. Turned back twice on the North face, once because of the light and once because of the weather. Its a mountain that requires the upmost respect.

attempted this in august 2020 but it was too foggy to see anything and the mountain turned into a waterfall with the rain. It was a very sudden weather change and it caused us to turn back because it was too dangerous. I can see from your video that we were actually very close to the top . I don't regret turning around though as visibility became so poor that one of us could have got hurt. i hope to return on a sunny day in April 2022 to finally get to the top!

Really enjoyed this video - thanks for the great info & amazing footage. I typically stick with snowdon & forever tackling the pyg up & miners down.. 2 questions is tryfan much tougher than going up pyg track? & lastly how long does it take to reach the cannon stone?? Subbed 👍🔔
@ManontheOutside
@ManontheOutside Жыл бұрын
Thanks 😊Tryfan is much tougher than Pyg Track (I assume you mean the one on Snowdon). Crib Goch on Snowdon would be comparable to Tryfan in difficulty. Usually takes me about an hour to reach the cannon in good weather!

We're heading up Tryfan this saturday coming, i think Heather Terrace but stumbled by your video as has previously failed to achieve Crib. in your opinion, in order, which do you consider best? Helvellyn via striding edge Ben Crib Great video, thank you
@ManontheOutside
@ManontheOutside Жыл бұрын
I do love Helvellyn via Striding Edge, especially in the winter. Love Crib but it's way too busy now unless you avoid weekends. Ben (I assume you mean CMD Arete) is great but just a long drive! In order I'd say (in summer): Crib, Striding Edge, CMD. In winter, CMD, Striding Edge, Crib. I would say my favourite scramble is probably Aonach Eagach but it's a big step up from this, but not too difficult on a warm summer day,

Is the north tower the only way up or can you go to the right up a gully? When there this weekend but started really early got to the tower but didn’t know if that was the correct way or is there any other ways up?
@ManontheOutside
@ManontheOutside 2 жыл бұрын
You can go around the North Tower to the left (heading East)....there's a bit of a broken pathway for a while which is called the Eastern Traverse if I remember correctly. Then you'll hit a gully which will force you to head up to the right, then you can break into the back of the North Tower at the top of the gully (there's a big jammed chockstone in the gully so it's easy to recognise). Going this way avoids the majority of the tricky stuff on the North Tower. Don't go right (West) at the North Tower, as this will take you onto Tryfan's West Face, as you'll be getting into much higher grade scrambling then (grade 2/3 and upwards), it is possible to go this way but it can get very tricky. There's a good article which explains it here: www.grough.co.uk/magazine/2018/06/28/thinking-of-heading-up-tryfan-read-this-first

@ManontheOutside
@ManontheOutside 11 ай бұрын
They're not actually that far apart - about 3 feet I would say. I've seen people straddle it before. It's the kind of thing that if it was in your back garden, you could jump it over and over. But with the massive drop behind Eve, when you get up there, most people have a change of mind 😄
