the under eye trend is called aegyo-sal! it’s like a beauty standard. a lot of people have aegyosal, and they just enhance the look by underlining the aegyosal! the translation would be “charming fat” as it’s supposed to make you look youthful and more cheerful. “aegyo” is often used in korea as a word for a cute “display” of affection, etc. people think that having more enhanced aegyosal can make you look cuter as well! hope this helps :)

a tip for the blush: their style of blush is focused more under the eyes and on the apples of the cheeks and it is not really diagonal and lifting like how western makeup is. hope this helps.

the “eye bag” look is called aegyo sal and it is supposed to mimic how eyes look when you smile (big and round) having this is a beauty standard in korea because it makes you appeal more youthful.

Those aren’t eye bags they are the tear duct and it’s seen as youthful and cute like “smiling eyes”. You did a great job adding color back to the face and you really worked your way around these new products. I love it!!!

James I'm Korean(born&raised) and most of the products you picked out ARE widely used here, and I really appreciate that and I love that you did this challenge. But the way you did your makeup is definitely not Korean. a) We don't do our eyes like that, I think the eye makeup you did is a lot more Chinese than Korean. A lot of people confuse the Chinese Douyin makeup and Korean makeup, but the "drawing the lashes" thing is popular in China but not here. Also the liner was completely different and so much more dramatically done, and we don't use eyeshadow like that at all..?? The reference photos were from China, too. b) The way you did your blush, contour, and highlighter is just totally different from what we do, we don't emphasize our cheekbones, we hate them lol so we don't contour our cheekbones, and we usually put blush in our cheek area, not the cheekbones. c) Yeah the brows were very different from the way we do it but I can understand because your brows are very different from Koreans. Also I loved that you mentioned the shades of Korean foundations, I hate it when Americans are like "WhY ArE ThERE sO liTtlE sHadEs" I'm like BECAUSE WE'RE ALL ASIAN. But honestly not all of us are as fair as the foundation shades, the beauty standard here is to have fairer skin and people just want to use really light shades to cover up darker skin tones. If companies actually came out with realistic shades they just won't sell at all. It can definitely seem weird but it's just our culture and standard I guess, just like how you guys like tan looks. Anyway I'm not trying to be offensive or anything it was probably difficult enough already to find all the right products much less do the right makeup techniques. I would say the youtube channels 'Minsco 민스코', 'Risabae', and 'LeoJ Makeup' can help you learn a lot more about Korean makeup, they do all the trendy makeup stuff. Love you James!

Chinese makeup now is literally what Korean makeup was like 6-8 years ago. I remember my Chinese American friend telling me all her chinese friends follow Korean makeup/clothing trends and try to look Korean now and now anything Chinese is like a throwback 2016 Korean moment . Korean makeup now is centered around looking clean and minimal.,

One of the most famous Korean makeup techniques is to heat up a small wood stick (like a match stick or a wood toothpick) using fire and then use that wood stick to curl your lashes. You should try that technique!

'mool' means water.. mool cream is like a gel/water cream. all shades are on the fair to light end bc not only are koreans usually light skinned but they tend to prefer 'porcelein' skin like dolls. americans like tanning but koreans avoid tanning at all costs.. like wearing longsleeves in summer and sun umbrellas. you wont see a ton of pigment in korean makeup either (usually) since theyre all about looking as 'natural' as possible while trying to perfect the look :) drawing the undereye bag is to make it look like the eyes are bigger like dolls!

I love you james and im not a makeup artist or anything but live in korea and im pretty sure when you dip the cushion into the foundation, you first pat it a little bit in the back of your hand. So you can 양 조절. It'll look more natural and glowy.

The shadow under the eye is called an “aegyo sal” they typically do that to make their eyes look bigger, cheerful etc. And some say that its to make them look younger in a sense. Hope this helps!

As a Korean, you did such a good job with this!! The products u used are definitely very popular in Korea. The under eye thing u did haha is not a very very common thing to do in Korea, but some people do them!! They do it to make their eyes look bigger and more opened. U did a such a good job james! I would say that u nailed it 👍🏻👍🏻

Its very popular because it makes your eyes look bigger like a wide eyed style eye look.. And its mostly liked by idols and celebs and it made its way to everyday makeup looks❤

the eye bag is called aegyosal and 'lying silkworm' interchangeably, the reason its popular in asia is bc they believe it makes them look youthful and happy, its also like the effect ur eye makes when u smile:)

Saying it’s Korean makeup and using Chinese makeup as thumbnail and clips. I don’t really think that’s respectful for both cultures. Korean makeup don’t really draw bottom lashes as well!! I’m REALLY mad as a k-pop fan and a Chinese
