The most annoying part of bar shampoo is when the bar breaks. I recommend a soap saver (like a bag) to keep the bits together plus it helps with lathering.

Yeah I take the broken bits and use them as regular soup or shaving soap, it works great! They last so long for before breaking.

So, with bar shampoo, it usually takes a few uses before your hair stops getting greasy really quickly, because the first few times the bar shampoo has to strip the silicone from regular shampoo out. Not an expert here, I just read about it ❤

If you did a bit more research, you would see that silicone can actually be good for some peoples hair lmao

@@elizabethrobertson4542 that may be, but I was explaining that the effectiveness of the bar shampoo is lower when it is working to remove silicone.

I have short dyed hair so I can’t say anything in terms of hair health differences but the bars don’t last as long as bottles but they are overall better for the environment, because they don’t have to go through the melting process it keeps most of the rich oils and fatty acids hair needs. :D

what I was taught as a kid (since I grew up in a house that used bar soaps a lot ) to just lather it on to your hand till u get bubbles then put it on your hair and just continue

(Edit: Showering and washing hair are 2 separate activities!) My hair is only 28-30 inches long...I go through 2 bottles of conditioner for every 1 bottle of shampoo. The thing to remember, you shouldn't was long hair very often it strips the natural oils...once a week is good for me (up to 10 days in the winter, less sweating - keeps it cleaner, and lack of humidity means it's super dry and washing it makes it drier... and brush it regularly, from scalp to ends...it's the only way to move the oils down. (And I am guessing this is why she puts the argon oil only on the lower half) As for your actual question, a regular size bottle of shampoo last 6-10 weeks.

My hair is nearly as long, just shy of butt length and I've been using shampoo bars for over a year(I think I started around early spring 2022, it is now summer 2023) First of all, the bars last me ridiculously long. I am about halfway through my third bar now. So one bar lasts nearly 6 months for me. My best tip, make sure your hair is absolutely dripping wet. If I wait more than a minute or two or wring out the water from my hair, it's really difficult to lather. I apply it directly from the bar, roughly around my scalp and then first massage into my scalp and then put it through the rest of my hair. That way the roots are cleaned the most, but the rest also gets some. I have only tried one solid conditioner and that didn't work for me at all, but I might just have to try more. But I'd probably go through 2-3 bottles of shampoo in the time I use one bar. I haven't had any issues, maybe except for it hurting more if any of it gets in my eyes.

I prefer the bar but I can only find them on line and some leave a powder residue. The hair shampoo bars from Lush are awesome if you can get one get those they last about a month I have hair that's 4 ft long.
@SmilyLily1996

@@mistydawn2717 I am using store brand shampoo bar from a drugstore here. The bar costs around 3€. Never had any residue, my hair isn't drier or anything like that. And as I said, it lasts me nearly 6 months for a bar. But then again, I typically wash my hair around twice a week, can be down to once or more often in the summer, but that's also probably why they last me so long.

If your hair gets greasy easily, you shouldnt use that head massager because it encourages the follicles to produce more oil and will get greasier quickly again

I've been using solid shampoo and conditioner for about three years now and it can take some time to find the combo that works for you, especially if you have curly or fine hair. (And dont be afraid to try different brands in combination with each other.) But it really is just lather the shampoo bar onto your scalp like normal and then run the conditioner bar over the lengths. I find I go through a shampoo bar in just under two months, while a conditioner bar lasts me the better part of a year.

Hi Holly! I've been using shampoo bars for four years now. If you find it's leaving residue on your hair and scalp, try an apple cider vinegar wash (two teaspoons ACV + 1 cup water). Rinse your hair with it, leave it for a few minutes like conditioner, and it should help!

My hair is over 4ft long, so here are some of my tips: Take Vitamin D supplements, your hair and nails will thank you, despite otherwise ill health, my hair is still just past my knees, and I am relatively tall. If your hair is very greasy and you can feel that your scalp is almost gummy with oil/sebum (you might feel it particularly after showering, when your hair is still wet), you need to wash with a clarifying shampoo before a liquid or bar will get your scalp and hair clean, AFAIR it's basically that regular shampoo doesn't have enough surfactants in it to wash out the amount of grease/oil/dirt which is embedded in your scalp, so you need something that will break up the build-up easily and efficiently. The cheapest option which works great is to use some dish soap, massage well into scalp and rinse well with hot/warm water afterwards, making sure to lift top layers of hair so lower down on the scalp gets fresh water directed at it. Your hair should be literally squeaky clean after this. (*NB* you only need a very small amount of dish soap and only use it on you scalp (fine to let it wash through the ends, ofc), about 5-8ml does me justice, especially if I've added extra conditioning oils to my hair and then wasn't able to shower when I wanted so it gummed up in the extra time. When using a bar shampoo I find it helps to rub the bar with a scalp massager, and then use the scalp massager to apply the scrapings direct to the scalp where you can work them into a lather (also, the points of those yin/yang shapes on the bars are going to become brittle as they reduce and will break off, try using a small bag and sticking to square/round/rectangular bars for this reason). As ever, make sure to lift some of the top sections of your hair to make sure you get product right into your scalp lower down, and not just the top of your crown. Do something similar for the bar conditioner, if it is wash out conditioner, use the scalp massager, if it is leave in conditioner use a *clean* comb or brush to apply it as directed through your hair. After clarifying shampoo or dish soap cleaning you may find you need to double condition to retain softness and manageability; I either get out of the shower and run my hair through with aloe jelly, wrap it up like a mask for an hour or two and then fully rinse afterward, or just double condition with a standard conditioner.

Your hair is sooooo pretty! I hope it works for you! I have tried one shampoo bar, but it was the cheap one from dollar tree. I hate it. But I am not giving up on shampoo and conditioner bars! I just need to find the right one and not the cheap stuff. I’m so annoyed with my hair. It is past my bum, and it used to be so thick!!!! But this year it thinned to less than half of what it was in just a couple months….I’m trying to figure out the cause and take more vitamins. I’m going to have to cut it just to make it look somewhat nice. 😭

If you’re having a hard time getting a lather w the shampoo bar try adding more water to your hair! There’s definitely a bit of a learning curve but I’ve found that shampoo bars last a lot longer than bottles. I sometimes lather the bar in my hands and then go in my hair and it takes a few times but it was what worked best for me to start, and it makes the shampoo last longer! After using bar shampoo for so long I have just started rubbing the bar on my head most of the time. I save the thin broken end of the bars and soak them in water to make it easy to kinda scoop up and use but it takes me years to save up enough.

Will you please share more about your normal routine before the bars? IM VERY SORRY IF THAT'S CREEPY. I have three feet of hair and I dont have many issues with it, but I use a silver dollar sized glob of both shampoo and conditioner, no extra anything. I use my fingers to scrub the scalp and work my natural oils down to the ends before shampooing.(Bedhead-green bottle26oz lasts me a 3-4 months) Letting my hair dry before putting it into its braided bun form. Would love to know more about how the bars work for you as well since I've never used them.
