Chicken Butt in rural Borneo Malaysia - Would you try it?

Randomly we came across a small food stall grilling some meat in a rural village in Borneo Malaysia. We asked the uncle if we can get some chicken and soon found out that he is selling chicken butt. I never tried it, but of course I was open to give it a try! Let's see how it was!

Ken, as a born German myself, I have to say: I’m rather disappointed that you never had chicken butt. In our family there was always a huge fight of who gets to eat the butt. And not just the chicken butt, but on Christmas for instance the goose butt. It would have been my uncles dream, as he always said: if he could purchase butt only, he’d be the happiest man on earth. Obviously there was no such thing that you could buy a bag of chicken/goose butts anywhere.

I don't know about goose butts, but in Malaysia some wet market/hypermarket you can buy pre cut chicken butts.

As an information, we, Asians, eat practically all parts of animals...no wastage. That's why that uncle even has bbq chicken skin, chicken hearts, chicken gizzards beside chicken wings. Ya, you can find vendors selling chicken butts especially at night market or some small roadside stalls in Peninsular Malaysia. I like chicken butts 😀🤓 A short but interesting vlog...all about "CHICKEN BUTTS" Hahaha !!! P.S : Yeah, l remember that video of you trying tarantula in Cambodia ...a great experience, Ken...💪👍👏

Fun fact: Chicken butt is not actually where the a**hole of the chicken is, but the rear tip of the chicken. The actual hole is further below.

BBQ chicken butts and hearts are very common street food in Japan and most Asia countries. Had them many times, they are really tasty!

Chicken butt is famous in Malaysia.You can find chicken butt BBQ everywhere in almost every part in Malaysia.I like chicken butt too.The taste is unique.

Chicken butt is also called ' Bishop's nose' is very common in Malaysia. There are many women and some men just love that part of the chicken. It is sold separately in Wet Markets.

I think he collect those beer/drink cans to sell for recycling purpose. Most villagers I know do not throw them away but collect & sell to recyclers.

It can be rare...but is famous among the locals...in the villages and rural areas. They have it as BBQ or Satay-like on skewer sticks... Don't be surprised....you will also find fried chicken feet...!! they are tasty too...!!

Many years back 5 of us were in a pasar malam (night market) when 2 of my friends in the group decided to buy some raw chicken butts to be deep fried back home. The 3 of us said these 2 guys were crazy wanting to eat chicken butts of all things. Upon frying the butts the 3 of us were somehow persuaded to give it a try. We did, & the 2 guys who bought them ended up not getting any butts to eat 🤣😂

Hi Ken 👋 and everyone , ahhh...it’s bishop nose 😋😅 @ buntut ayam 😂 it’s very normal for us in Asia eating chicken butt , you can find it everywhere especially in pasar malam. Not advisable to eat chicken butt too much because it’s high in fats and calories just eat in moderation 😅 no doubt that it tastes delicious 😋 quite surprised that you didn’t come across of this chicken butt satay. Chicken butt: In Malay we call it Buntut Ayam or Tongkeng Ayam. Delicious minus the bone haha

It's kinda common but u wont see those kinda food in shops or restaurant. those are almost exclusively sold at night market usually got people sell those chicken butt or liver or heart kidney barbecued or fried. u will never see those being sold in restaurants. but i think every night market should have them. i kinda like them too they are savory.

Nice find - a roadside barbeque. 3:03 I think those are empty cans of his previous customers. 😄 6:36 Chicken butt is commonly eaten in Southeast Asia and probably all of Asia. I can't say the same for other parts of the world. 8:30 You should try the temilok/kejumah or the lelita' (lelitak) or the kelatang. 😆 Sago grubs are... cliché.

when you come to Miri you should go to "Rumah Asap" known as Miri smoke house, it's a barbeque place where people come to eat and drinks beer. There's a lot of food you can try too like pork 3 layer, pork intestine, pork liver and other kind of food.

It's very common in Malaysia, not at restaurant but at night market, stalls or certain restaurant that cook chicken thigh with their butt. Mostly we fried or grill chicken butt.

In Sarawak it's pretty common to eat Chicken butt. Of course it looks weird for outsiders because people priorities cleanliness. Don't worry though, I bet the chicken already got clean before you eat it. Fun facts about Dayak people: they don't eat crocodile or alligator. It's Taboo for them.

Yes. Common in Malaysia , but they won't give it to you until you ask for it. When you order alacart , tell him to include it or they will throw it away. It's a love it or hate it. Like durian. !

buntut we call in Brunei is Tongking ayam...that is common in night market. in malaysia i just know they call buntut ayam.

Buntut in sarawak, they call it buntut manok. In semenanjung, it's usually called tongkeng ayam. Either way, I don't eat it 🤢

Very adventurous of you, Ken and glad to know you like them...if you don't try, you will never know...l have a hard laugh when you (Ken) said "l like my butt"...🤓😄 FYI, there are 3 butts on 1 skewer.

Hi Ken! I do enjoy all your videos.They are very lively and funny.You and your mates especially you are very brave trying all sort of food you find anywhere. I like all kinds of satay buy not chicken butts.Too oily maybe.By the way....if you get to cross to Borneo you should visit the city of Pontianak just at the ecuator.But " be careful" you are a handsome man and should take care of "the vampire Pontianak".She always go after nice men...Don't panic it's just a leyend...I guess anybody can tell you the story .If not check in Internet and find out about Pontianak....uuuuuuuuu👻👻🤣🤣 Have a nice trip and take care.

Hi Ken. It isn't actually the butt of the chicken, it is the tail. Buntut is tail. It is the triangular part at the end of the chicken's body that holds the tail feathers.
