A Chick Called Albert

A Chick Called Albert

2 жыл бұрын

He wasn't accepted by mom and wasn't drinking. He was weighing 1,5kg instead of the 7kg he should weigh when I got him. He needed intensive care. The vet thought me how to feed him by tube, which I did every 2,5 hours that night...
Helping the weakest ones comes at a price. And days like these break my hart. But I thought I should share this side of the work as well with you guys. I'm so sorry I couldn't do better... but this is nature which I greatly respect. And I hope by sharing his story, his short live will have some meaning by showing the sweetness of his kind; a very social and quite intelligent fellow mammal we share this planet with.

@@hlianamariakaragiorgi6134 I would assume that is possibly because farm animals are not seen as on the same level as pets by many. So instead of spending what could be a lot of money on him, they may have waited to see if there would be natural improvement. Especially if this was going to be a pig sold to butchers, loss vs gain unfortunately. Although of course this all depends on the original owners, I could be 100% wrong.

I thought the same thing. If they'd cared enough, it may not have saved the piglet's life in the end, but he wouldn't have been cold, hungry or in pain. People often discount a baby farm animal (many animals really) without even considering it's an infant-an infant born because people decided to breed its parents. Too few people consider that- when they'd not leave a human infant like that.

i was scrolling the entire time to see if anyone shared the same sentiment. when he drove to the farm to pick up the piglet and explained that he was gonna take it in, i thought it was just a couple days old. but then seeing how big the piglet’s sibling was let me know very quickly how long it’s been since its birth and the day they finally decided to intervene. also the vet checkup confused me as well?? this piglet could have definitely survived. as an owner of a pet, farm animal, or whatever it is, you should be able to tell if your animals are ok or not. they should’ve noticed that as soon as the mother rejected the baby, they should’ve separated it from the family and hand fed it. clearly, with the sibling being three times his own size, it should’ve been clear that that was an unsafe environment for the little guy. it makes me sad knowing that there were many preventative measures to be taken :(

I believe that too. It's why when I had to put my childhood cat down I was fairly proud of myself for having what it took to stay by her side to the end. I did find a bit of comfort in the very cute vet interns. Apparently my cat had a heart defect so bad they don't normally see the cat still alive. So the vet asked if the interns could listen to her heart first. They were very excited but being very respectful. I was glad they were able to learn something. Flour had a nice long life of 18, 19, 20 or so years. She was around so long we kind of forgot how old she was. She did completely freak out my mom by staring at her the whole time. I told my mom she leave but she stayed for me & the cat traumatized her. Good kitty.

I'm sorry my friend, this truly is the hardest part of loving animals, even ones we barely knew. You gave that little milk-bubble-blowing-piglet the best life before it passed. He wasn't alone or getting beat up by his siblings, he was warm and loved.

I don't think I've ever seen an animal so young look like they had already given up on life as much as this tiny piglet during that first shot. This was so heartbreaking to watch, but it's clear to me that this piglet was at peace in those final moments. You did everything that any mortal man could do. For all that it's worth, you may not have saved this one, but you gave the poor dear what they needed most: love. You changed this piglet's life for the best despite the outcome, and that is worthy in the end.

You did everything you could, and you made such a difference. The comfort and care you gave him on his final day allowed him to leave this world in peace, with a full belly, in no pain, in a calm and restful way. May his days playing in the fields of heaven be happy and full of sunshine. It was his time. Thankyou for the time you gave him - I'm sure he is so grateful to you. 💖

When you first pet him he knew he'd be loved amd cared for in his last days. You did all you could. He was comfortable and he definitely felt the love you gave him in his last day. He was comfortable enough to finally let go. Little Wilbur was happy to go in peace with a full belly, hydrated, warm and surrounded by the best. Its not always a happy ending though you'll never know if you don't try. I feel honored that you share these stories with us. I enjoy them all, good and sad.

It's important to show the REALITY of taking care of very sick babies. It's not always hunky dory n the end. Taking care of critters like this is an emotional rollercoaster. It's sad but it's nature and it's real. Thank you sir for giving it your all!!! You have an AMAZING heart!!! Thank you for sharing I'm sure this was difficult...

I think that this sweet soul would not wish that you had done anything differently. I know that it is so difficult to lose one, the goal is always for them to be happy and thrive when possible - but giving them calm and comfort to be at peace is a special thing too, even if it is the hardest of the outcomes. Sending my love and support as always. ❤️

My sweet rabbit passed away exactly 7 days ago. She had been abandoned, so I took her in. She had babies a few days later and absolutely did not trust me to care for them or her. It took me over a year to really get her to trust me. I think she had been either very close with the people who abandoned her or was treated poorly by them. Either way, I had to work for my love. Eventually she started running to me with joy when she saw me and I thought we would start our clock from that point. It just wasn't to be though. It broke my heart to loose her. It all happened very quickly because they hide if they feel unwell. She just suddenly couldn't breathe well. Before my husband could get to the house to take her to the vet, she passed away. From first visible symptom to burial was less than two hours. I just cannot get over the feeling of loosing them. "Grief is just love squaring up to it's oldest enemy, death." -heard in a video about dealing with death.
