GALLE FACE, SRI LANKA: I put a question out on Reddit about what I should do in Colombo and the overwhelming response was to try Isso Wade at Galle Face Green, so here I am. I have to say, it didn't look overly appealing but how will the taste of this Sri Lankan street food be?

I remember going Nana's restaurant back in the late 80's with my friend. We would park the car at Galle Face and grab some Naans with keema curry late at night. Leaving the car doors open, having Keema, Naan with a coke and some soft rock being played from the car stereo was heavenly. Don't worry about Delhi belly in Sri Lanka, as long as your food is prepared in front of you, the Isso wade or any other dish should be fine.

@@TheWanderLife Yeah, the Colombo skyline has changed a lot over the years. Galle face used to be a nice hangout place at night for teenagers back in the day. Enjoy your stay in Sri Lanka and don't be afraid to try different fruits like Rambutan and Mangosteen. We also have the best tasting pineapples and mangoes. Also, if you get a chance, don't forget to try the jackfruit curry and the Brinjal curry while you're in Sri Lanka.

I personally know the owner of this restaurant the guy working there may be the one who is appointed as a manager or in charge. This place was a booming restaurant before 2010 but later events changed everything.

Yea, it looked slow going whilst there. I think the guys tactics at recruiting diners, particularly foreign ones ought to be toned down a tad because I witnessed myself quite a few backing off feeling a little pressured. Normal that you have to hustle for sure and that guy 100% can. Hopefully things pick up for them

This is called Nanas restaurant in galle face, prior 2010 they were very successful with much more infrastructure and with good hygiene. But later years when galle face got reconstructed and the events which followed due to our corrupt politicians all those vendors there lost the businesses and are now struggling to recover.

Yea, I came to Sri Lanka for the first time in 2017 and you're exactly right, it was where I basically started this channel. 100% I'll be back for a third visit in the near future to contuinue the adventure on this channel. Hi guys thanks for coming to sri lanka and best of luck with your vloging I think isso wade was good most people like it but my personal advice is to stick to your plan and type If you go for a wine store you can buy beer with the marked price no need to pay some things higher and isso wade is around 100 and buy goods which have a marked price like the ice cream you bought is in genuine price 50 each Finally with all respect thanks for coming to sri lanka I have subscribed your channel keep on with the good work

Hey there! Thanks so much for your comment and so sorry for the late reply - for some reason this didn't come up in my notifications. Yea I actually liked the Isso Wade, but it was more of just a nervousness about getting sick because we'd had bad luck in Nepal and India. Of course, it's usually best to avoid if you have doubts, but often I just can't help myself haha. Definitely learned about going to the wine/liquor store/local bars for the beer - more often than not after this I usually just bought myself a beer from the wine shop and enjoyed in the evening - both enjoying the local beer and the local price 😂 Plenty more videos to come from my trip there and hopefully back very soon for my third trip to the country. Already can't wait!

I actually think that the great thing about Sri Lanka is you actually have a bit of everything and so it’s a wonderful balance. I’m reality, where I’m from, I’m a city boy, but coming from that and feeling comfortable in those environments also means that I absolutely cherish every moment in places opposite to that, so I do love being in isolated areas, in the forest, in the jungle and certainly on beautiful beaches. Nothing better than balancing it all though so it’s great to be able to spend some time in Colombo, then head to Kandy and then off in any direction you want to something a little more natural and remote ❤️🇱🇰

If you are so worried about food poisoning its better to go for a five star hotel and eat from them. Please stop overacting 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

Overacting. Alright mate! I was recommended to go to galle face green and try them there…that’s exactly what I did and I survived. Doesn’t mean I don’t have to question it in the moment does it. Do I travel solely just to eat in 5* hotels all the time? No bloody of course not. If you’ve suffered extremely badly with food poisoning more than a couple of times whilst travelling you’re always going to have that seed of doubt, but overacting/overreacting, come on!
