I've always been someone that chooses to use artificial baits when freshwater fishing, however recently I had Frank (Old Balls) give me the low-down on a technique he has been using lately to catch Bass and Yellowbelly on live bait - so I thought I would give it a go! Hope you enjoy this episode!

Well that was certainly different, I have used jig heads before for bait but only because I ran out of hooks 😅 A couple of nice fish, can't complain about that 🎣💪

Great now their will be no bass left to catch as he will have caught them all just like the Yelas in the Melton Reservoir 😂 great video mate I fished more or less the same setup at the Nong caught me plenty of bream. That technique also works well bobbing yabbies in timber as well.

Hahaha cheers bud, I have been wanting to try bobbing yabbies for Yellowbelly around structure ever since I saw it on an old Rex Hunt episode. It's just not easy keeping them alive on the kayak when it's a hot day.

@@jordythebassist Good old Rex Hunt almost forgot about him. Try putting the container the yabbies are in inside a cooler bag or esky it's what a mate of mine usually does

This is why i find it hard to throw plastics and lures, bait just gets the job done. When i am fishing i spend most of my time re-baiting rods. Usally get picked so fast you can only fish one rod. When will you be back out on the snapper?

I personally prefer hunting down my fish with lures and fins that the artificials will find better quality fish, but the yabbies sure are effective! Not sure when, maybe the next couple months when the water temps drop back down around the 17 degree mark

@jordythebassist they have finished their spawning, now there gorging them selves for the migration swim north. At 17° thats in the end of April. By then they are leaving the bay. There are the residential fish that stay but the fishing gets really tough over winter.
