How is this different from the Twin Power SW. is FE much improved? Is FE not fully sealed for saltwater use?
@jordythebassist
@jordythebassist 29 күн бұрын
The Twin Power SW is typically found in larger sizes and used more for heavy offshore work, the latest FE model is 5000 size and under so more of an estuary reel and lighter offshore work - much the same as the Stella and Stella SW series. The FE Model does have a seal to prevent ingress of water, however the way it has been designed is more functional to stopping water ingress via a water repellent treatment and design features.

I only recently got a yak, and went to the poles. Pulled in some nice pinkies and salmon. When you get onto a decent fish, there is a lot more to think about than when you are landbased, like dealing with the drift, the fish going under the boat, staying away from the poles. All good fun, thanks for sharing the vid

Hi Jordan, I'm looking to target Snapper and Mulloway, land based in Newcastle NSW. I'd be fishing in the harbour or off the breakwalls. Do you reckon 7ft6 is long enough? Is a graphite rod ok? Trying to keep costs down. Any thoughts on Shimano Catana? 4-8kg rod OK? A few locals are suggesting 9-10ft rods? They seem a bit long for me. Thanks Evan
@jordythebassist
@jordythebassist Ай бұрын
G'day Evan! I used to live up that way at Lake Macquarie once upon a time, you'd definitely get Mulloway but from what I can recall the big Snapper were more found a little further offshore and not so much near the harbour. 7'6 is about as long as I'd go, once you go longer it becomes harder to achieve balance in your outfit and it will tire you out faster due to the rod tip wanting to drop and having to try counteract that motion. Personally I like a fairly stiff and fast action rod in a 3-6kg class but a slower action 4-8kg will do the job. The NS Black Hole KN red I show in this video is perfect but they're discontinued and probably hard to find, I'd look for something like a Gomoku Spin Series or an Abu Garcia Veritas in the 4-8kg class. They're usually 7 foot long but they will cast a long way as long as you're using braid and not mono. Hope this helps 👍

@jordythebassist thanks. What do you think of the Crucis Tempesta 752 Snapper Rods? Another option would be a second hand Shimano Raider 762 Snapper rod? Any advice much appreciated!
@jordythebassist
@jordythebassist Ай бұрын
@evanroser1867 unfortunately I'm not familiar with the Crucis range, however the Raider range are excellent value for money. Originally designed by Ian Miller who is one of the most renowned rod builder in the country. The 762 Snapper may be a little bit too heavily rated at 5-8kg though, you might struggle throwing smaller soft plastics with it. The NS Black Hole range is worth a look as well if you can find them locally, excellent rods and great value for money. The Amped and Alpha ranges are worth a look for something in that 3-6kg or 4-8kg range.

The Diawa equivalent new 24 Certates are in the 600 and 700 range in AUS. There is no justification for the 200-buck price increase in AUS for the fe twin powers over the previous when you can buy them from Digitaka for under 500, the same price range as the new Certates on the site. The only reason I can see is Shimano is still sitting on a lot of inventory of FD and XD reels and needs to move the older models.
@jordythebassist
@jordythebassist Ай бұрын
My guess is Shimano is probably trickling out small numbers of them to the Aussie market, I know that my local tackle shop only got the single 2500 delivered in their initial delivery. It would be a shame if the FD didn't sell that well as it is a phenomenal reel. I'm not a Daiwa guy personally but if I were to buy one it would probably be the Certate as it seems to have less issues compared to other Daiwa models.

Definitely a case of beauty being in the eye of the beholder. I don't think it's ugly by any means at all, it's quite a similar design to the Stella FK in it's simplicity. I just personally think the FD is a more aesthetically pleasing looking reel. Luckily none of this stuff has much effect on the functionality of it!

Hey, mate, what was the line rating for the big reds fishing, a few months ago, i hooked a big red or a jew on one early summer morning, i was using 1-3 kilo rod and 1000 reel, no chance at all to land the fish, so i was thinking upgrade for the big ones instead of bream fishing which i normally enjoyed, can you give me some advice about 8 Lb braid or 10 Lb for snapper fishing, for leader, i us 10 Lb flurocarben, size of reel 2500 shimano nacis
@jordythebassist
@jordythebassist Ай бұрын
Hey mate, I tend to fish a little heavier than that for big reds land based. I typically use a 3-6kg rod, 3000 size reel and 8 ply PE1.0 braid which works out to be around 16-20lb depending on the brand. 16-20lb fluorocarbon leader.

Now that you’ve owned the FD and FE, how goes the vanquish compare? From what I gather they are virtually the same components except the vanquish is more ci4?
@jordythebassist
@jordythebassist Ай бұрын
Great question; the Vanquish I used to own and it was a slightly older reel and a second hand purchase, so not as smooth as the Twin Powers. It also lacked the overall solid feeling of the FD Twin Power. I think the best way to describe it is that it felt more like a higher end Vanford than a Twin Power, which makes sense as I'm pretty sure Vanford is supposed to mean "Vanquish affordable". It was a more compact and lightweight reel.

@jordythebassist
@jordythebassist 2 ай бұрын
@rabbiyitzchaksviben-tzionl3203 I guess that depends on how much you want to spend, medium price would be around the $600 mark. I would recommend looking at a Shimano Vanford on a Shimano Zodias rod. I'd lean towards a 1000 size reel with the 268L Zodias for flicking small lures, however if you want to flick the 13.5g Tassie Devil like I am in this video then a 2500 Vanford with a 270ML Zodias would be a better choice. That's why I typically bring a couple rods with me as it gives me versatility to throw both small and slightly larger lures.

Money aside, if you could only buy one out of the TP FD, TP FE or the Stella FK? Looking at grabbing a c3000 and am a little stumped. It’s only about $200 difference between each model so (400 between FD and Stella) am thinking for that amount of count I may aswell just go for the FK?
@jordythebassist
@jordythebassist 2 ай бұрын
That's a tough question! If money wasn't an issue, I would probably just go with the Stella FK. I've got one in a 2500 size and it's phenomenal. The TP FE feels remarkably similar in it's smoothness and overall feel. The design language between the 2 reels is very similar as well, to my eye the major difference between them is the colour. If we throw money back into the equation, the relative slight difference in price means that people end up where you are and consider just splashing the extra on the Stella. If the FE were the same price as the FD then to me it would be a no-brainer to get the FE. But it's not. Having said that, for the kind of prices that the FD would be going for now that it is discontinued - it's really hard to pass up some of the deals. I'm almost considering searching for another FD for that reason. I can probably sum it up best like this; Go the TP FD if you want bulletproof reliability, the better sounding drag and a bargain price Go the Stella FK if you want the flagship reel with all the bells and whistles Go the TP FE if you want most of a Stella FK at a slightly discounted price
@DanTheCardMan2
@DanTheCardMan2 2 ай бұрын
@@jordythebassist wow, cracking reply mate, truly appreciate it. My local said they would work out a deal as I’m also chasing a few millerods, one to pair with a newly acquired sustain for bream chasing and the other with a TP/Stella (also looking at some nitro vapours instead) I’ll see what they can do. If the FD can come down to under 50% of the Stella I’ll go down that path but if not I’ll probably just grab the FK. With that amount of coin it might just be best to invest slightly more.

I am using 7/0 and 9/0 circle sea hooks to target trophy catfish. I am using live bluegill for bait. I hook them above the anal fin so they go straight to the bottom and have plenty of hook exposure. I use rod holders and am letting them load up on the rod completely and then I reel down on them and within a few seconds after I pick the rod up the hook pops out of their mouth. I don't know what the problem is. Some of them have been very quality fish and I don;t know if they are just getting whisker hooked or what but I don't understand it. I missed four solid takedowns today. Any advice would be appreciated I was trying not to gut hook them but I would rather gut hook them and at least get them in. Should I go back to J hooks?
@jordythebassist
@jordythebassist 2 ай бұрын
Hmm, I'm not too familiar with catfish and their habits when taking a bait so it's hard for me to say exactly where it's going wrong for you. My thoughts are either the hooks are doubling back into the bait and becoming obstructed because of where they've been pinned, or if they are dragging your leader and line across structure then it could be upsetting the action of the hook. Maybe try pin them just behind the head through the back or somewhere around the nose area and see if that helps. I remember talking with a fisherman from the US a long time ago and he changed over to circles for catfish, he had success with them so I know it can be done.
@Haydenyergin34

@@jordythebassist Catfish inhale the bait completely. They hit much similar to the way a bass hits when they just inhale it. They don't chew on or play with the bait it goes straight to the stomach as catfist don't h are the most notorious fish in the untied states for swallowing the hook which is why most people are switching to circle hooks. I know the bait isn't getting turned around into the bait because i am only getting my hook back. And I know for sure it isn't gar because they are getting hooked for several seconds before the hook pops out. I am thinking about going back to 7/0 J hooks as I have had excellent luck with them. I just don't understand what's going wrong, It's like the hook isn't penetrating the tooth patch but I watch people on here catch them with even smaller size hooks. Maybe I should offset them?
