It’s great for painting many minis at once and fairly quickly or even modifying it slightly to take out one of the dry brushes still works almost as good (doesn’t turn out quite the same) if you need to save even more time. Definitely worth giving it a try. This one here was my first try and I definitely am not an experienced painter haha

I’ve done whole blood bowl team with this technique. Generally found speed paints are too thick compared to citadel’s contrast. I also found the extra grey helps. So black then drybrush a dark grey the a light one then white itself working slowly over areas when you know what you want light and dark. Still end up doing tiny bit of drybrushed highlights anyway no matter what way you take.

Thanks for your comment. Always good to have other opinions and ideas for the future. I only did the Drybrush at the end of this one because I didn’t like the green that I chose at the start. The other slapchops I’ve done since this first one I haven’t used a dry brush after as I haven’t found that I’ve needed to. That doesn’t mean I won’t ever need to but I haven’t needed to yet.

@@Princess_Quorra that’s great! I have been drybrushing every colour on my skaven blood bowl team. Slapchop is great but I wanted just to push it that one step beyond that so did couple drybrushes over to highlight the final parts, but I now don’t highlight as much due to slapchoping.
@Princess_Quorra
@Princess_Quorra 11 ай бұрын
I will have to give it a try on a mini that I’m happy with the colour I picked. Although with the additional colours available now with the speedpaint 2.0 there are so many more to choose from compared to when I did this first Slapchop. So hopefully I should be able to always find a colour I will be happy with. Although you never know once you’ve finished your mini and done all the other colours if you’re still going to like that very first colour you picked as your first paint. For your highlights that you do on your slapchops how do you select what colours you’ll use over top of your contrast paints (I assume that’s what you use based on your first comment but if not I apologize in advance). Do you just pick a regular acrylic that is slightly lighter/brighter as you normally would that’s hopefully in the same colour range? For my minis that I’ve don’t highlighting on thus far I’ve mostly used the army painter air colour triad line which makes it easy to highlight or Atleast know what colour to use(it doesn’t make me any better at painting. Just the trio of colours from dark to light makes that part easy).
@munkiemedia3323
@munkiemedia3323 11 ай бұрын
@@Princess_Quorra you just think what that highway bit is missing then pick a paint that matches what it’s lacking to you. It’s still how heavily pigmented the speed paints are. A mate of mine recently tried and he said it lost any form of trying to base, shade and highlight in one like contrasts do. Contrasts are just thin enough to actually do what they’re meant to do.

Won’t doing dry brushing before painting the mini cover all those grays and whites? Serious question
@Princess_Quorra
@Princess_Quorra 6 ай бұрын
The grey and then white dry brushing your primed mini is supposed to create natural shadows and highlights underneath the speedpaints (or contrast paints). The speedpaints allow those to show thru so you don’t have to highlight with multiple lighter colours after. I did drybrush a lighter green on top of the skin colour at the end as I wasn’t happy with the colour I chose but that was just personal choice.
@duckonquack5337

@@Princess_Quorra may I ask how would one achieve this if speedpaint and contrast paint weren’t on the table and acrylic paint was. I used water to thin the paint out and it worked pretty good just wondering if there is any other tips
@Princess_Quorra
@Princess_Quorra 5 ай бұрын
Hi. If you want to use paints you already have you could look into getting speed paint/contrast medium to mix into your acrylics. You would only need to get one new bottle rather than a new set of paints. If this isn’t an option then a traditional layering/highlighting will give a similar effect.

@@Princess_Quorra thank you so much!!!! I tried paint a mini black and dry brushing the highlights then used acrylic paint with some water to think it out. It came out better then I expected (still think your way is 100x better) but if you ever run out of speed paint try using acrylic with some water for thinning. The thin coats show the highlights well and make the shades of the black in the tuff to reach places really pop
@Princess_Quorra
@Princess_Quorra 5 ай бұрын
You’re welcome. We do have tons of speedpaints and acrylics so we should always have something on hand. We don’t always do slapchop. It definitely is easier when you have a batch of minis or even a modified version of slapchop if you aren’t going for the full look for something like a board game where you have a lot of the same mini that you want to get done quickly.

@@Princess_Quorra as you mentioned yourself, especially the green turned out pretty dark and didn’t let the previously prepared highlights and shadows to shine through. This is key for getting the most out of Slapchop and not needing to necessarily highlight/drybrush after
@Princess_Quorra
@Princess_Quorra 8 ай бұрын
Yes I did mention the green was a darker green then I wanted as a colour overall. It was really not the colour green I wanted at all but neither was the other green in the original mega set. Having the selection of greens available in the 2.0 mega set leads to a lot more colour choices now then when this was done. My question is more about why Every speedpaint should be diluted with speedpaint medium when slapchopping? A lot of the lighter colours already either don’t have very good coverage in a single coat or have good coverage but still are easy to see the highlights and shadows through as is. Sometimes I find that there is too much shadow being seen when using some of the light colours that I do need a second coat to see the colour at all.

Yeah but if you don't use the green "speed paint" it does not work very well, because either the green covers the shades, or it is too transparent to really paint anything. In my opinion it depends at last 50% on what paints you are using.

Slap chop is efficient and looks decent from afar, but man am I tired of seeing speed and contrast paint schemes. It’s super noticeable when they’re used to me as the blends and lighting just look off on a closer glance. Especially when applied with out an airbrush on larger models. I absolutely understand that people are taut on time to work on attention to detail, but it’s like an epidemic at my game shops. Almost every new army that someone brings in is just a rushed contrast Job that looks okay. Contrast paints are a tool, not a crutch!
