The thing I've learned in the few years I've been woodworking is that it's never failure until it's outta your hands. And that most mistakes can be fixed with a little bit of wit and creativity. Good video on showing those obstacles can be overcome

I personally have never been a fan of river tables since their inception (not saying they don’t have some beautiful outcomes) but that base is gorgeous. And you’re right it’s the small details that make or break a piece. Adding a chamfer to a piece to give an illusion of being thinner than it really is or a round-over to make it appear thicker, adding shadow lines for definition… such small things that make a huge difference. If these details weren’t there even individuals with no woodworking experience feel there is something off or feel it is “meh”. The subtle matching curves of the top to the base is beautiful. So you might say they do get noticed even if only subconsciously. So good on you for taking advantage of your learned and/or innate instincts! 🥰 As a side note, here is something nobody really ever wants, unsolicited advice 🤪😂. So, from an almost 50-year-old, mother of 4 grown children, who was introduced to woodworking at 9-years-old…. Don’t ever grow-up. Mature and learn and grow but keep the child parts alive. It’s the child part that is curious, creative and dreams about the fantastic. As we mature, learn and grow we see how to make them into beautiful realities. I will very interested to watch your upcoming projects! I be subbed!

I have been woodworking for over 20 years and watching creative individuals like yourself on KZfaq for many years now. While I have seen great tables created before I have never seem a more beautiful base created for a river table. Absolutely stunning! I do worry that the base may be to fragile in the long run, it is a thing of beauty and I hope you stick with it! I will subscribe.

Beautifully done dude. I’m binge watching your stuff as we speak and this was the second on the list. You overcame a lot and processed and got back to work. You turned obstacles in to advantages. In my opinion, when you allow a mistake the chance to teach you something, and also let it teach you immediately. That’s a pretty mature attitude to have. Amazing build. I really like how you went about the legs and attaching the table thru the C channel. Maybe some ppl don’t C channel mounts the way you did it because they’re afraid of warping and don’t want to take it out once it’s in? Who knows…congrats man! Your work is amazing. I’ll mull over where I’m at when I turn 37.

Studio Flow, I watched this video for two purposes: first, I am in the planning stages of making a similar project with a friend for their new house and hope to learn from your experiece; second (and last) for the enjoyment of watching your video. I watched your carved table about an hour ago and subscribed immediately after finishing it. Your filming, editing, and waxing-philisophical-narrative approach were very good and I enjoyed them from a relaxing entertainment perspective (including the background music choices). All that said, a couple of questions; what was your Mom's reaction to the artwork you delivered to her dining room and what is your name? I am a hobbyist woodworker in the process of learning design concepts and I look forward to your next and future videos. Keep up the great work, and stay in the flow.

@StudioFlowWoodworking
@StudioFlowWoodworking 8 ай бұрын
I got my wood for this project from a local dealer in california, and I paid a premium because they sourced the slab and milled the rest of the wood specialty for me, it wasn't s3s stock they had in shop. My best advice would be to go to your local hardwoods dealer and make some friends, in my experience you can sometimes get a discount for being a kind and loyal customer. As for online, I haven't used their service personally but the woodworking YT community has generally said woodworkerssource is a decent option.

Attention to detail takes any project to a higher level. Good 2nd video, you're already creating your own style. And as for using the C-channel to stabilise the top and to connect the base , I've always wondered why other makers don't combine the steel base with the C-channels
@StudioFlowWoodworking
@StudioFlowWoodworking 8 ай бұрын
Thank you for the kind words! I think most of the time it's just easier to attach the base from the bottom using buttons or recessed oversized bolt holes, but in my case the curves of the legs got in the way of that. Maybe other woodworkers will see this video and this technique will be adopted by others, who knows?

Yes, for the most part the rest of the build is lower stress for sure. Of course, things can always go south and I make mistakes all the time, but part of the fun is figuring out how to fix the mistakes. I wouldn't still be woodworking if I didn't love the craft

Pretty good video and I will subscribe to your channel. I only ask one thing…….please do not, under any circumstances cut loose tenons like that (24:10). Your left hand is far too close to the table saw blade. If you keep doing that, your woodworking career will be cut short, not to mention your fingers. Next time use a mitre box and crosscut saw or, if a power tool is necessary, a band saw. Just sayin’
