Hamilton ensemble voice Rick, why do you write like you're running out of time?
With the announcement of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Chalice of the Gods, I figured I'd toss together a timeline video for new and returning readers!
A few important notes!
I deliberately excluded The Ultimate Guide to Percy Jackson- it has lots of fun supplemental info, but no stories that take place anywhere in the canon timeline, plus the old art gives me heebie jeebies
I also left out Demigods of Olympus - this is an app with some of the short stories referenced in the video already, as well as 4 choose-your-own adventure stories that aren’t canon
The PJO/Kane crossovers can all be read in a single novella bindup called Demigods and Magicians, and if you’re going to read all three together, I’d place it where I put The Crown of Ptolemy, post-BoO
Since The Sun and the Star and the Chalice of the Gods are still unreleased, I can only make educated guesses and speak on what Rick has said for them timeline-wise, but for the rest of the books here, I’ve read and used my best memory recall to place them in an order that makes the most sense. The series is full of (often intentional) anachronisms, so me poking fun at Percy’s age and the “canon” timeline isn’t serious, it’s all in good fun.

Just tell them to read the first series, second series, and the last series. The spin-offs rarely bring anything to the main timeline and are rarely brung up to the point were I question if they are even canon to the main timeline lol

I officially propose a petition stating that if Rick Riordan writes yet ANOTHER Percy Jackson book, it better be about Percy and Annabeth going to therapy and trying to adjust to a normal college life

The next 2 books will be the three tasks required to get percy into college, but I swear if we don't get to see a happy ending for percy and annabeth before Rick stops writing I'm gonna lose it 😂

Percy's not actually seventeen in the Heroes of Olympus. A lot of people seem to think he is, but he's not. Annabeth turns seventeen in the House of Hades, but Percy's birthday is on August 18th, and the Blood of Olympus finishes only a couple days after August 1st

And the trials of Apollo takes place a few months after the end of Blood of Olympus, making Percy 17 in the “present” day hence why we make reference to him not aging past 17

He’s 16 in HoO, 17 during the beginning of ToA and since he’s going to college around the end I’m guessing 18, I think it said Apollo had been on Earth for 6 months, I’ll try to find the page later So his current age is 17 years 6 months+Apollo’s time on Earth so……he’s around 18

Yes. Yes. Yes. One of my favorite things about this universe is that it has brought different parts of my family together. My adopted cousin, my brother in law, an uncle from a different side of the family, and another brother in law’s sister and I can all get together and geek out in this series! Now that my nephew is finally showing interest, this is my reference video when they are ready to dig in.

I would like to point out though that Son of Sobek and Staff of Serapis happened after the events of The Blood of Olympus aka the entire series of the Heroes of Olympus. I say that because during their battle Percy mentioned the Doors of Death asking Carter if he's an escape spirit. Which, he would've only asked if he already finished dealing with it.

You have made this so much easier for me to understand, thank you. Percy Jackson has been something I've always wanted to delve into but never truly had the motivation, but recently I have had a bunch of Nico Di Angelo stuff pop up on my streaming apps, and now I have the motivation to read it all. I always go full in and don't stop half way, so I am excited to start but was super overwhelmed. You helped simplify it and keep my head straight as I watched. Again, thanks for the video, I can't wait to get the books and start reading.

My first thought when I saw Rick's announcement for the Chalice of the Gods was "Dear Lord PLEASE just let this boy rest!" Also going off the fact that Rick has said that Percy was 12 in 2005 (meaning he was born in 1993 asdfghjkl) since that's when the first book came out (in one of his super old interviews I have no idea if you can still find it anywhere) that means that his Christmas story has Percy as A 27 YEAR OLD. PERCY SHOULD BE 27. NICO SHOULD BE 23. AGHHHHHHHH

I thought the ship of the dead ending was a reference to when Percy and Annabeth reached Camp Juputer during tower of nero and heard the news of Jason. I kinda assumed ship of the dead started before tower of nero and ended before the end of tower of nero

there has been no confirmation of this, but people are making theories that further spinoff books will happen. not to mention, mythomagic inc is official production studio for the riordan verse movies/TV. some plot points will be "improved", which may retcon some things. if the TV shows are successful, i have a feeling he might try "original"/spinoff movies also set in the riordan verse. (exg- kinda like how ALTA has the original TV shows, but also novels, comics, and now video games)

Question: when should I read the short story "Leo Valdez and the quest for Buford " which is in the demigod diaries as i have decided to wholeheartedly believe your way (as you do a great job of explaining why and what way to read the books) but this is the only story i wanted to know cause I think it will cause spoilers if read before the lost hero. Anyways, loved this !

hello i lived under a rock till now hahahaha i just have the first 15 books (the olympians+heroes of olympus+the trials of apollo) I think that is the main base I need to keep going directly to the sun and the star x'D(?????? i ...listened the 15 books in speedrun mode from mid December to the actual date that it is today because #thepoweroflovefornico . i have the 1st book of magnus but I got it in spain Spanish and it is killing me I want a more neutral Spanish(like Mexican Spanish argentinian spa is also a no for me sniff) I'll just buy the bookset in English when I have money o

Wait, what cameo is it? I remember reading about a flying horse, so assumed it was Flapjack, but was there a different one? Also I think Rachel references the Kanes when she talks about a penguin in the TOA.

Are you referring to the Serpent's Shadow? If so I believe she was talking about Drew Tanaka the daughter of Aphrodite that Piper had trouble with in The Lost Hero. She goes to the same school as Sadie did and was there during the dance scene I believe. I think the flying horse aka Blackjack was mentioned in the crossover book Son of Sobek though I'm not sure.

Well this is five months late, but it’s Drew Tanaka, daughter of Aphrodite. Also someone else said Lacy too, and while I remember her in Serpent’s Shadow, I don’t remember her in HoO. If she IS there, I’d assume she’s a daughter of Aphrodite too
