Trying Vintage Bottlings of Bailie Nicol Jarvie, a Mystery "Speyside", Vat 69 and Glenmorangie 18!

Bailie Nichol Jarvie always sounds like an avant garde jazz musician to me,so I imagine the whisky tastes "NICE"

The first time I'd ever heard of Vat 69 was in the series "Band of Brothers". It was the drink of choice of Captain Lewis Nixon of Easy Company, 101st Airborne Division. I still have never seen it anywhere.

In '78-'79 I lived in Italy for a bit, on break from my University in the US. Vat 69 was widely sold in Italy and Germany at that time, places not known, even more then than today, for not knowing or caring how whisky should taste. We assumed that "Vat 69" was a euphemism for whisky that failed a quality check in Scotland.

BNJ done in when Glenmorangie was bought by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, they were only interested in Glenmorangie and Ardbeg. They shut the bottling hall in Broxburn, moved to a much smaller facility in Livingston. They didn’t see BNJ as a luxury product which is all they do (apparently). They also sold Glen Moray to Martiniquaise to help pay for the deal.

Was my speed rail scotch for many years - great price (I think i was paying about £17 a bottle + retro bottles). Never forgave LVMH for nixing it

BNJ was,as far as I remember, from Glenmorangie. I believe it was available until early 2010 or so.

Vat 69 for me, my mother worked at the ferry bottling plant for years. ❤

I've always wondered if the musty comes from a combination of old barrels and dusty/musty wharehouses???

Yeah we were wondering why more recently bottled, but still old whiskies don't seem to have this as much as the older bottlings?!

The least they could do would be to sell the brand and the recipe to another company, if LVMH aren't interested

The girl on the right is so cute. She seems down to earth and not on a high horse about being cute. They both are funny and don't at all seem like whisky snobs. I'd love to have a dram with these sweet ladies.
