It's the sweltering hot summer of 1976 & the class 506 EMU was still working the line from Manchester Piccadilly to Hadfield on the Woodhead line.
Passenger services from Sheffield Victoria had stopped running but the line was still used for freight before finally closing in 1981, the line from Piccadilly to Hadfield is still open & is now worked by Class 323.
Originally the line was electrified at 1500 volts but was increased to 25kv after all 1500v stock had stopped working the line.
