Thank you for watching my video! Would you rather have a diamond or a colored gemstone engagement ring? Let me know!

Colored gem any day. Infact my husband and I both have star sapphires with pave diamonds. I get a lot of comments. More than that my ring has a lot of sentiment as it was the very first thing my husband purchased for himself when. He was 13 and started working. We put it in a custom band for me and I love it.

Tsavorite garnet is excellent choice. For maximum sparkle consider Demantoid because of its superb dispersion

I much prefer coloured gemstones. Vanadium & Chromium bond cleanly to Garnet unlike Beryl, hence there are few inclusions.

Hahaha.. Love the humor at the end! We are just hearing about Tsavorite and this will help the decision making process

I have both. Tsavorite is the better stone as far as durability and clarity for the price and rarity. Colombian emerald in my opinion has the best vivid bluish green color that no other green stone can offer, but that is my personal opinion.

If you 'only' buy one green stone Which one do you choose :tsavorite, green sapphire or emerald? Tq
@JewelsoftheTrade Жыл бұрын
That is true! Fine emerald does have more of that desirable “blue-green” hue vs the “true green” of fine tsavorite. So glad that you have both, I hope you wear them!
@shrapmetal Жыл бұрын
@@edibarat8714 I would have to go with a fine emerald, if i could afford it. But most commercial emerald are of low quality, so you need to find a good source and prepare to spend a lot for a nice stone.

If you have to choose only one green stone Which one do you really buy: Tsavorite/green sapphire/emerald?? Tq
@JewelsoftheTrade Жыл бұрын
If it’s for an engagement ring, definitely tsavorite! If it’s for a right hand ring, then demantoid garnet. My third choice would actually be green tourmaline over sapphire and emerald. Green sapphire often looks dark and has a dull presence in person, so pictures are usually misleading. Emerald is lovely but SO expensive in high qualities.

I actually do have a green jade engagement ring which I LOVE! It’s a very different look from tsavorite and emerald, but still gorgeous!

Same here!! I hope you have a collection of colored stones to cherish for a long, long time! I have a rhodolite garnet that I love more than any diamond. There’s something special about color 💕

Great video, just subscribed. I have heard of tsavorite garnet but never seen one in the flesh. However I have seen some stunning examples of dioptase and also of diopside, sourced from Russia. I presume they are less often used as gemstones because they are softer than emerald and so forth? One other question. I have watched several of your videos on the subject of jade, and I notice you rate nephrite and jadeite as being harder than sapphires. Surely corundrum is much higher on the Mohs scale than any other mineral except diamond? Perhaps I misunderstand what you mean by hardness. Moreover I once had a haematite ring, which you rate as being the toughest gemstone of all, and it broke within a short period of my having bought it. Any clarification on that one?

Hey Laura! Thank you for watching my videos! Chrome Diopside is a gorgeous gemstone. My personal opinion is that it’s been given a “bad rap” because of it’s name and because it’s often sold on HSN, QVC and other jewelry shopping sources that tend to promote “lower quality” jewelry. As for the hardness issue, jade is tougher than sapphire but not harder. The terminology is confusing, but I provide clarification in my video “How to Buy DURABLE Jewelry” which I highly recommend checking out to better understand hardness vs toughness. As for the hematite ring, even the toughest of gemstones can still break so we advise taking great care with all jewelry. Please note also that there are “fake” hematite stones on the market posing as genuine, sometimes even an uninformed seller may not know with certainty what they have. I hope you found a replacement that you love! Hematite is a wonderful stone.

@@JewelsoftheTrade Thank you so much for your prompt and very informative reply. I shall certainly go look up your videos on durability, hardness and so forth, since I've obviously misunderstood these terms as they are used by jewellers. Your whole channel looks very interesting and I'm looking forward to your output in the future.

Hardness & toughness are two different things. A Diamond can shatter for example.
@JewelsoftheTrade2 жыл бұрын
@@rogerhargreaves2272 Correct! I describe the distinction in detail in my video “How to Buy Durable Jewelry.” In a nutshell: Hardness refers to resistance to scratching. Toughness refers to resistance to breaking.
