I could totally relate with him... a lot of my favorite gemstones are also underrated. I'm also not into treated gemstones. Iolites, Garnets, Spinels, Labradorite, Colored Freshwater Pearls, Red Jasper, Tigers Eye, White Chalcedony, Strawberry Quartz, Titanium Oxide Rutilated Quartz, Tourmalinated Quartz and Copper Rutilated Quartz, etc.

I’m from Zim and my mum worked at a mine, one day when we went to meet her at work one of the big bosses took us on a tour, he took us to his office and showed us some of the things they mined that he kept and one of them was a raw Tsavorite that they came across. I didn’t understand it at the time but I loved the green colour and was when I decided green was my favourite colour.

First, thank you, BOTH, for such lessons and all the sharing! 💚🧡 I'm a huge fan of JTV and now, of these "gemmy" and very informative episodes! 20+ years ago, I purchased many (affordable) jewelry items before I began purchasing loose gems and (many) loose mix gem packages. I have a whole "simple person who loves rocks" collection that kept me amused, wowed and busy as I went through my "blind buys" one by one. These all kept me busy while I battled my illnesses and disabilities. The long of it, I have super nice gems that I couldn't and still cannot identify absolutely. This episode has cleared up some things for me and I'm so appreciative! I have beautifully cut gems that I adore that I believed were synthetic but now, seeing this, I believe I have the real deal.. I have several of each of the Tsavorite and Spessartite, Spinel and even a very beautifully cut oval shape gem that appears to be an Alexandrite (GORGEOUS DOUBLE COLOR!) and until I can confirm what it truly is, I have to think that it's synthetic.. but a phenomenal one! (Even a very reputable jeweler from my area couldn't say if it is real or not nor what it is!) Anyway, I set one of my largest oval shaped Mandarin Spessartite into a simple, thin gold ring prong and used it as my wedding ring 15 years ago. So unique! It's absolutely priceless! And had set a large, partially heat treated pear shaped Tanzanite into a petite band of white gold with tiny diamonds surrounding band and large medium lavender/greenish agua colored Tanzanite stone. Proud of my gems and my jewelry creations. I'm going to be rediscovering all my gems again using all the new information I'm learning from your fascinating and informative videos.. thank you! Stay awesome! Love y'all! 💚

Completely agree, I too very much prefer Spinel over Ruby. The reds in Spinel are more complex as opposed to the rather single hued Ruby. And Garnets are just hard to beat in their color range and beauty. Some of my favorite stones are always undervalued.

The raspberry spinel at first I thought it was a rhodolite garnet because the color. Even though is not the most common color for spinel nothing compares to the Mahenge red spinel one of my favorite gemstones. Some of the pure red spinels is nicer than almost rubies. The Mandarin garnet over 10 cts eye clean is extraordinary.

Awesome gems. I'd take these over rubies and emeralds any day. It would have been great to know the price though. The big four, diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires are overrated in my opinion; their prestige is mostly related to their long history, heavy marketing and Hollywood movies rather than anything else. On the other hand, garnets and spinels are such underrated gems, second to none.

10:38 if that is the Tsavorite that was cut, what happened to all the rest of the material? it is only like 1/10 of the size. Maybe they cut more stones out of it?

@Jackaroo. 6 ай бұрын
It is likely they took off material before hand to cut into other stones, but when you cut any stone in general you typically lose between 40 to 70 percent of unrecoverable material in the cutting process. For something this big, they may have taken a laser to it before they cut the main stone to preserve material to cut other stones, but that is not how most stone cutting is done with average individual rough stones. They just grind down the material, and it is lost in the process of shaping and then cutting the facets into the gemstone.

I love seeing these gems, but sometimes the angle they're shot at doesn't show them too well - like I can see straight through the stone at 12:30. A face-up shot shouldn't show that windowing
@kristalcallator2806
@kristalcallator2806 2 жыл бұрын
I also noticed that. especially the Mahenge Spinel seemed to be very windowed. it's called a window, where the some of the facets are not cut well so instead of the light reflecting? it's just passing through. and that's what it seems is happening. But I'm hesitant because I would THINK these people would know about windows and how that affects that value and beauty of a gem. I'd love someone with more info to enlighten me.

Tsavorite vs Emerald??? I'll take Tsavorite without a doubt. There's too much skullduggery that goes on with Emeralds. Oils and fillers and such. If Emeralds need all of these tweaks, treatments or enhancements to make them beautiful or acceptable as a gem, are they truly a gem??? I am not a fan of "synthetic gems" or "gems" that have been tinkered with to achieve gem status.
