NBTT #2 - 2023 Paddle Palace Winter Giant Round Robin
The theme for this episode is strategies and mindsets for BIG success in tournament play! My goal is to help you bring out your real level in tournament and figure out where your focus needs to be to improve your level. Please let me know in the comments if you have any questions or if you have some tournament footage I can take a look at for you!
This is a 2-star tournament in Norcross, GA, and I played it to get ready for my upcoming Teams tournament in Washington DC on 11/24. It's going to be the biggest tournament of the year for me so tensions were high at this tournament! Really happy with my performance against the players who were lower level than me, and working hard to make fewer mistakes against those who are above me.
Don't forget to subscribe to our lord and savior Seth Pech's channel ‪@PechPongTT‬ and check out his videos on TT strategy!
Subscribe to watch me keep grinding to achieve my life goal of getting a USATT rating of 2000!
See you soon for Episode 3: Joola Nationals Teams in Washington DC

Hello from a fellow GA table tennis player (I'm in the background if you look hard enough). Nice to find your channel! You're as much a joy to see both in person and on KZfaq. I can relate to the rating panic lmao. Keep up the good work!

I have played Dale before. it’s crazy how higher level players look like they’re playing so casually but they’re so consistent and always place the ball very well. And i love what you said at 33:23 i will keep this in mind for when i get to a high level 😂

Dude I know Dale looks like he's just chilling and then the shot hits the table so spinny 😂 I was shook by his underspin serve lol And yes dude I'm glad because I get you with that all the time. You gotta try hard!

Thanks Nathan, very helpfull mental match analysis. Your open and honest viewpoint is refreshing. I enjoyed watching you playing Kai, with some more work on your short game and tactics, I'm sure with your physical attributes you could eventually reach his level.

I’ve found that u1500 you can win just by strong pushes and a slow spinny ball. Usually those matches those players only push, inconsistent forehands, almost non existent loops. With 1500-1700. Short serves into a big third ball or fifth spinny ball into their backhand has worked for me as their forehand is pretty developed but their backhand isn’t as consistent.

@@Nathan_BriTT Went Nicely, I tried looking at the weaker side of my opponents, which worked great. Won a few matches even tho all but 1 of my opponents were higher rated, I know my forehand is nice and played a lot to the backhand of my opponents to get them back on my forehand (im left handed). I've been trying to get to 500 rating (Netherlands), which I got because of this torno so definetly helped me out! Thanks!🤗

Just subscribed, really like your vibe. I picked the game up 15 months ago after a 50 year layoff. Retired golf pro. Have the good fortune of working with Daniel Gorak from time to time. Started at 1100, got to 1345 and fell off back to the low 1200s. Curious about your event in August where you took a hit. From 1840 to 1710. How did you resurrect your game? Also your Charlotte event in 2021 where you gained a bunch. How did you assimilate and keep moving forward? I made a big move a couple of months ago, winning against a 1700+ and some high ranked players but fall prey to the experience you're talking about, trying to force big shots instead of. being patient against lower ranked players. Have Florida Senior games coming up and have a good opportunity to place in the 70-74 group. I realize this is a lot of bio, but I'm seeking the equilibrium required to perform at optimal mindset. Golf gives you minutes between shots, Table Tennis requires immediate reset. If you see this and have a chance to respond, in 25 words or less, what did you do after your August event that strengthened your resolve? Thanks again for the content, it's excellent.

August was tough for me, that tournament really hit me hard. In 25 words I'd probably say: "I lost 130 points because I was so worried about my rating that I couldn't play my game." I threw 2 matches to 1600-level players and one to a 1700 because I had decided that this was gonna be THE tournament where I went up because I had trained a little for it. My biggest mistake. Most importantly coming back from that, I realized that I can't ever take any opponent for granted, and I can't assume my confidence will be constant. You have to work for your confidence in each point, and build it up in real time against each individual opponent in each individual moment. Confidence before the tournament is really just arrogance, and I didn't know that yet at the time. Huge learning moment for me but it was really hard emotionally.

@@Nathan_BriTT Thank you very much for the response, Nathan. That really resonates. You've identified a truth I learned in golf, basically the need to enter each event with a quiet, humble spirit and do the best you can on each shot. There is value in all opponents and we do ourselves no favor underestimating anyone. I need to get to that space in table tennis. At 70 years old there is a tendency to hurry the process but I'm seeing that the process needs full attention and respect. Let the destination take care of itself.Keep up the learning. You communicate very effectively and are adding value at a high level. Thank you.
