This is a good coach, I think she's trying to teach you things she thinks you can handle. That being said, you totally can counter-loop a slow loop not off the bounce, that's a perfectly legitimate shot. She basically was just teaching you how to active block a spinny-ball towards the end, which is great, but please do know there are other options, including the one you suggested at the beginning! Also for your push, you need to relax your grip on you thumb and forefinger, so you can add wrist action to the push, which will make it much heavier. The way your push is now, it's going to be limited in how heavy you can chop it b/c you don't use your wrist at all. Apologies for the unsolicited advice.

Heavy push always gotta be right off the bounce. I learned that in my brief stent of trying to learn jpen. There's a great Ryu Seung Min video where he talks about that. The longer its away from the bounce the more spin is lost, so if you get it right off the bounce you retain that spin. Also the best way to understand the slow loop counter is another penholder, Ma Lin. Again, you want to retain the spin. His counters are so powerful without much effort because he stays close and just puts all the power from the spin in the loop right back into the ball.

Nice video! I struggle with similar things so this is good for me to watch. I think one thing i noticed is you step really good in with your right leg on the push, but then you pause for a second before stepping out with the right leg. I think if you can be quicker pushing off after you push it will give you a lot more time for the counter, my coach tells me I have the same problem 😂

Sorry but I'm pretty sure that's bs. That's not how you have a quality bh flick. Your bh flick in the beginning was just find, you just need to improve the footwork and body positioning a little. Look at Lin Yin-Ju, FZD or Wang chuqin. You actually do close your racket as you want to create speed over spin. A bh flick is played close the the net, which means that if you hit it on top of the bounce and just hit it hard enough, no spin can make it go into the net. That's why bh flick is played with a closed racket and uses the elbow as a pivot - to create power. What your coach showed you seems like some bad technique to me as it won't work in higher levels.
@Nathan_BriTT15 күн бұрын
The flick that I used at the beginning is a professional technique that I copied from the pros, but it never works for me in real matches. This is probably because I'm not actually a professional player, so it doesn't make sense for me to try to copy their techniques, especially the two best bh flicks in all of history like FZD and LYJ like you mentioned. The one that Amy showed me is much more appropriate for my level and I've been able to EASILY integrate it into my game, almost immediately. I get where you're coming from that maybe it's not the highest quality possible like the pro flick, but I'm not a pro and this flick helped my game so much in a very short time.
@uzumi051715 күн бұрын
@@Nathan_BriTTAlright, got it. That makes sense. Do you know the reason why you couldn't apply the 'pro' technique in real matches? Could it be footwork or ball anticipation or is it something else? (Maybe just more practice needed? xD)
@Nathan_BriTT15 күн бұрын
@@uzumi0517 definitely all of those things, but mostly it's the ability to anticipate the serve that I don't have. The pros can flick with that dangerously closed racket angle because they know exactly where to be. It's a high risk technique but they're able to do it because they predict where the serve will be almost instantly. For me, it takes me much longer to predict the serve so taking such high risk technique very rarely paid off for me against the higher level players. I'm able to use the "professional" flick technique against lower level players because their servers are very easy for me to predict, but against players my level or higher it was unattainable. This new flick technique that Amy taught me I can use even against the highest level players and even if I don't judge the serve right away. Very helpful for my game, even if the flick isn't a kill shot it lets me get into the rally and kill with my counter loop 😎
@bryanwells406315 күн бұрын
@uzumi0517 the hardest part is that the pros use an extremely fluid motion, and read the spin perfectly, and the placement, and the timing, and execution the shot without any room for error with extremely high risk. And... they all started out with the simplified version taught in this video!

His elbow is to far away from the body and his back swing is to big. His right hand ends up in a different position after he finished his motion. The arm should not go much further then behind the right leg. He needs so much time to do this back swing, he has troubles with moving and transitioning his weight because of that. His upper body doesn't really turn, that's why he plays a lot with his shoulder. His The topspin seems unstable in terms of timing. Especially as penhold player, he needs to get his left leg a bit more in the front of his right leg. The upper body will be more open and then can turn much more freely. Just my observation. Great session :)
