Thanks to everyone who voted in my last poll! Y'all chose to hear about the origin stories of this channel, so today we're going to look back at how I started with Pathfider2e. I'm also going to share other channels, tools, and tips I used to learn the system and have more fun with the game. This will do it for 2023, but we'll be back next year with a brand new video series!

The story of me getting hooked on Pathfinder is kinda funny actually. I've been playing DnD5e for many years and especially towards the end of 5e and with One DnD or whatever it's called getting ever closer, i got very frustrated with the game. Rules, Player Options and Books that came out have more and more deviated from what i find interesting. Instead of being that deadly, tense dungeon crawling and heroic adventuring game that i fell in love with, over the years 5e mutated into this kind of boring, power trippy, everybody does whatever the fuck they want superhero game. Running the game in a (to me) meaningful and challenging way became harder with every book they released and that's when i started to heavily houserule the game to a point where it barely was 5e anymore. And through sheer coincidence i found out that during my heavy houseruling, i invented like half of Pathfinder 2e's rule set without even realizing it.. and that was the moment when i decided that it's time to switch games. Pathfinder was the game i wanted to play all along.. i just had to realize this truth.

I kinda feel like this is exactly what the "Level Up 5e" variant is. People putting so much work into trying to make 5e into the game that PF2 already is. I can't help feeling a bit sorry for them. Glad you (and I) found whatever we needed to cross over

I've enjoyed a lot of your videos but this one was particularly helpful. I'm also new to PF2E (but not to TTRPGs), so I've been working on ways to better learn the system. The theory-crafting approach is right up my alley, as is the "start small GMing". Thanks and great work!

6:35 I prefer Wanderer's Guide, you can do the same things but it's completely free! I've never understood why Pathbuilder gets pushed so much. PB is not as good as WG, and it's free version doesn't do as much Wanderer's Guide, and as far as I know(could be something you get if you pay) PB doesn't allow for 3rd party/custom stuff but WG does!
