Back in 1972 I worked near Sakhi Sarwar, Dara Ghazi Khan District. There was a brick lined hand dug well about 14 feet across and 140 feet deep. I looked into the well and could not see the bottom because of contrast to above light. They were digging the well deeper and happily singing because they were bringing out wet dirt. Dirt was brought to the surface in a cut off 50 gallon barrow pulled up by an ox. I knew the depth by measuring how far the ox walked away from the well. Very resourceful Pakistani spirit.

@@LegendLength If you looked closely at the video near the end where they have the pipe hooked up, you can see a pump down at the bottom of the pit. Our 8" dewatering pump sat at the bottom and had a 25' long drive shaft. The motor sat above the pit so that it could be pulled yearly for an insulation test and coating with varnish. Having the pump at that low a level, it can pull water up a short distance and then push it up the rest of the way. It is far easier to push water under pressure than it is to pull it up with a vacuum. 30' is about the limit and this well is 47-50' to the bottom of the pit.

No, the pit is dug it's because when in the rainy season the pit will hold ample water and it get good recharge

Why they are not fixing the submercibal inspite of this exercise .Submercibal is much usefull in such type of area where water table is low.

Very good! A lot of planning and hard work. I was surprised how dry the earth was so far down, Bishop Auckland water table seems to be about a foot except where I want to plant.

Its a good effort but you should up date your technology, there are a lot of Turbines, and you havn't to dig 35 feet, just bore from upper surface, and install Turbine

Water can only be sucked in about 10m high, so the pump sits in the masonry shaft. A well pump that sits at the bottom of the pipe would have made the whole difficult brick part unnecessary.

Very neat job done but l do not understand the long time period building this and the cost is way more expensive ? Surely a turbine pump and borehole will be less cost and time to complete. Modern turbines are very reliable as well and this Deep well lends itself to flooding and drowning the pump motor that is not waterproof. l so wish to be in Pakistan to be of help in this regard as l have many years experience in this and other technical field. Since there is no water after digging 30~40 feet, why dig such a big pit? I found that you ended up with a tube well, so why not just go down from the ground and save time? In addition, you put the pump to the bottom of the well. Once the water accumulates, wouldn't the motor be broken?

Dear Imran, power consume by submersible pump is less than by conventional pump, moreover it is easy to install and its installation cost and maintenance cost is less.

But it is not powerful like a conventional Pump and it gets broken very often including repair cost and maintenance costs are much more also! The dept also effects submersible pumps very much. They are not efficient enough for this size of water demand. As you see they will also water the fields using this well.
