No, they are not. Henry VIII is the father of Mary, Elizabeth and Edward Tudor, Mary Stuart (the queen of scots) is the granddaughter of Henry's sister Margaret who married the Scottish king. Her son is Mary Stuart's father. Mary Stuart's claim to the English throne is based on her descendance of Margaret's and Henry's father, King Henry VII of England. Mary Tudor became Mary I of England after her half-brother Edward died. When she died, Elizabeth succeeded her. Mary Stuart on the other hand, who was just as catholic as Mary Tudor, became ~6 days after she was born queen because her father died in battle. After Mary Tudor's death there was a controversy who should succeed her, since Mary Tudor was a proud catholic. The catholics thought of Mary Stuart as the rightful heir and the protestants of Elizabeth, who in the end was the queen of England. Little fact by the side, Henry VIII and Margaret also had a sister called Mary Tudor who became Queen of France. If you look into English history, you will find many queens or members of the royal family called Mary, Elizabeth, Katherine or Anne. I hope I could make that a little clearer to you.

Mary Stuart wasn't Elizabeth's niece she was her second-cousin. May's grandmother Margaret who was the eldest daughter of King Henry VII of England was Elizabeth's aunt.

Also she never burned thousands, those were her father and brother trying to burn Catholicısm out of their own people. (Don't think I have a religious bias pls, I'm a proud atheist) she burned arround 300 and killed less per year than any other monarch in her nuclear family, so her not deserving that nickname is a "fact-checked " thing at least being the less deserving of the name among her glorıfıed family members...

I think I have heard of the series. It is Spanish, isn't it? I wish I did pay better attention to Spanish in school. I do not know how I past it with good without having any idea about its tenses and grammatical forms. Today I wish I did really put my efforts into it because there are so many Spanish historical dramas I want to see. I already suggested some to Netflix since atleast here in Germany they offer Grand Hotel and Velvet but so far none of the other's have been added. I would love to see a portrayal of an older Mary. Clearly I'm rather a Elizabeth girl but I do not understand why Hollywood or any TV broadcaster (I'm looking at you BBC) did not really bother to make a series or movie about Mary. I mean her life gives enough material for drama and it is quite a compelling story of woman who stood up for her believes. (well killing protestants was probably not the way I would choose to establish my rule but it shows that she was quite headstrong.)

I love Mary Tudor with all my heart, I think all the politics of Elizabeth just built a really bad imagen about her cuz they were protestans BUT I do believe Mary should do things a little more different and I love that Elizabeth never liked that people talked shit about her older sister and also a little mother of her. Mary had a terrible life and it would be amazing to have a tv series about her and her sad life. Anyway and sorry for my english I'm clearly from Argentina, but yes it is from Spain and its a great tv series and Mary's life is really good portrayad by that actress.
