Google tells me GORP stands for "granola, oats, raisins, and peanuts." As someone who has been on more than one hike, and has consumed *several* bags of trail mix, I had never heard of this before.

I've seen it as "good old raisins and peanuts" though only in books or tv. In my actual experience, I've always just called it trail mix.

I'm fairly new to the NYT crossword but I had a lot of fun with this one! a really good theme and it was too tricky to solve
