What I appreciate most about this is that the DVD confirms the status of the home distro rights, so at least we know Sanctuary/BMG still have them. It's still hysterical that a record label holds the home media rights to a 35-year-old British kids show, but it is what it is lol. Another thing to consider for people concerned with the U-Matic tape quality: judging by the blue semi-circle graphic used for the later TUGS intro, I have my suspicions that the series may have been edited on tape at some point. Could be wrong, it's just one element that could easily be printed to film (hell the whole intro could if the titling was done via video), but the mid-to-late 80s saw an explosion of video-based editing that's locked a lot of shows into standard definition like the 80s Twilight Zone, and later seasons of Star Trek shows like The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. So video masters might be the go-to for time time being, unless 35mm final cuts or original materials are discovered and manual restorations can happen like with Thomas.

There’s actually going to be more DVDs with just an episode, but the only ones that have been announced are Pirate and Trapped. I hope to get a copy of Trapped day one.

I'm hoping very soon the tugs project will upload the full workprint of Warrior soon, cause I'm sure everyone would love to see the full video itself, and get to hear a clear audio.

An honest, clear review! Amazing job

While I do MANY, MANY nitpicks with this DVD, I really like the idea of putting all the unreleased stuff onto its own DVD. Also saw somewhere else the idea of putting all the behind the scenes and original script drafts into a nice big book of its own. Think both would be a nice approach towards releasing the more unseen materiel to those who can't see them in person or having to dig through Google Drive and MEGA folders, along with supporting the brand. Like, it be so cool to have a book dedicated into showing off all of these documents and pictures, and subtly showcase the thought process behind the show's production. How it changed, what was removed, what was added in, etc.

Interesting take on things . Fair and balanced . And yeah I agree with supporting the brand . Some people may confuse it with supporting the exhibition - and thus want to avoid it- due to thier feelings on that subject. But I do support the Tugs brand , and if these DVD ms sell well maybe more things can be released in future. As for topics to cover .. cover the series in general . Break down episodes the good the bad , improvements to be made with hindsight . Could be interesting .

Great review. In my opinion to enjoy the U-Matic Sub Masters I would suggest watching it on a CRT TV.

Where do you buy these DVDs

I honestly don’t care less about the DVDs and have a rather nasty impression on them. I’d rather save up and wait for an original Tugs VHS to surface (preferably an Australian one so I won’t have to worry about shipping), then I can watch the series properly on a 4.3 ratio CRT TV. Not a shitty digitalised copy on YT.
