We are seeing a lot of these in our garden during lockdown. I'm contemplating wether or not to make a lockdown video! :P Truly fascinating!
@TonyPalmer4 жыл бұрын
Haven't seen a lot of them here lately but we have lots more tuis here than usual .. I was also thinking about doing a lockdown video of the tuis.

Yea, early today there was a Keruru right outside my window on a power line and It stayed there for awhile but as soon as I stopped the video, it flew away. Which was a bit funny.

I was doing some personal research to find out if there are actually more breeds of pigeons that are recorded for KZfaq, and I end up finding this. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Nice footage! I wish I got these lovely birds in my garden. Sadly they are absent from the Canterbury Plains where I live due to intense dairy farming :(

You could plant native trees like Karaka, tawa, kowhai, matai,Lance wood,tree fuchsia and wineberry
@glynnrigby55125 жыл бұрын
We see them occasionally in North Canterbury. Masaya is correct, plant those native species if you can, but they don't like magpies. Magpies have been known to kill them so trap and shoot magpies if you are able, that will also assist their distribution.

What kind of call the do the kereru have? I'm from the UK and our woodland (wood pigeons) have quite a loud coo.
@TonyPalmer3 жыл бұрын
Our kereru also make a coo but it is a quiet sound , more like a gentle hoo .

@@TonyPalmer Thanks for the info, Tony, I hadn't seen your comment until today.

@@christiangrey3645 I actually uploaded a new video on the kereru last month , if you listen carefully right at the start you can hear the kereru call .

Put some bird window stickers on your windows. Lets them know not to fly near there.

I own many pigeons but not yet a Kereru. I plan to purchase one soon and breed it to my common wood pigeon to produce hybrids
@HenrythePaleoGuy2 жыл бұрын
Fairly sure that's illegal, given they're protected.
@arfur56962 жыл бұрын
@@HenrythePaleoGuy Tell that to all the people who sold to me other wild pigeons, rockhopper penguins, dart frogs and a kinkajou. My friends also own cheetahs, chimpanzees and baboons. "Protected" means not so much in Qatar!
