Mathew Nyamlori, 37, is finally ready to graduate from Kenyatta University after tirelessly seating for KCPE exams 9 times and spending 22 years in primary school. He endured ridicule for being older than some of the teachers who taught him. He was also called stupid and severally discouraged from continuing with his studies.
Matthew recalls dropping out of secondary school, spending months out and finally ending up in primary school again. He acquired marks that could enable him to join Maranda high school twice and once in Maseno school. He was still in class 8 when his sibling was born and turned 14 years before he could get money to finance his secondary school education. 2020 is the year he's been waiting for, finally finishing his undergraduate degree in Public Policy.
His biggest cheerleader, his mother lost her eye sight in 2014 while he was in Nairobi school where he finished his secondary school education. He hopes she will regain her sight in good time to at least witness him wear the graduation gown. He says he will use his first job to make sure he meets his mother's needs as well as his elderly father's.
