Tulip Cane Tutorial in Polymer Clay

This tutorial is pretty quick and easy, but requires a fanfold skinner blend before starting. If you would like to learn how to do a skinner blend, you can find one here, done by a fellow member of the Tiny Pandora Design Team:

The supplies you will need for this tutorial are:
- a fanfold skinner blend of your choice of color for the tulip petals
- a fanfold skinner blend of your choice of color for the leaves
- A darker blend of each skinner blend for the outline wrap
- A background color for the cane (I used Cernit Translucent)
- Your background color extruded with a triangle-shaped disc, or you and make your own triangle-shaped log
- Your background color extruded in a hexagon or make your own logs into a square shape will work, also
- Your background color rolled out to a #3 setting on your pasta machine
- a tissue blade
- an awl or toothpick

Hi Priscilla, I’ve just come across your video. Thank you so much for explaining the process so clearly and giving invaluable tips! Could I ask you at which temperature you would bake the cane slices, as you have used Premo and Kato. Thanks again.❤️

I'm so sorry I missed your question earlier! I baked them at 375 for 30 minutes. I cut the translucent off of the tulip, and I used very thin slices of cane. I mix my clays a lot, especially now with the shortage. I watch it carefully, and if using translucent I turn the temp down to 260. I've never had any problems.

You mentioned Kato leaf green and navy. Are these blends? If so, where can I find them? Kato only has one green, and one darker blue...

Those are two colors I used to make the leaf blend, but Kato does call the two colors Leaf Green and Navy.

I would enjoy your tutorials more if I could hear you. My hearing aids are in and I have my computer volume on 100 percent and have to lean close to the computer to hear you. This is very frustrating. Sorry.

I'm very sorry, your maximum volume on your devices is out of my control. Did you turn the captions on? That might help. Have you thought of getting a speaker? That will amplify the sound more for you.
