Tuna melt 🥪
Ingredients:
- 8 slices of sourdough
- 500g (17.6 oz) can of tuna in spring water, drained
- 2 spring onions, finely sliced
- 1 large stalk of celery, diced
- 4 dill pickles, diced
- small bunch of dill, finely chopped
- salt and pepper to taste
- 120g (4.2 oz) mayonnaise
- 3 balls of mozzarella, sliced 1cm thick
- 2 tbsp butter
Method:
1. For the tuna mayo mixture, combine the tuna, spring onions, celery, pickles, dill, and mayonnaise in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
2. Prepare the melt by spreading the tuna mixture onto one slice of bread. Layer the mozzarella slices on top, and then top with another slice of bread.
3. In a frying pan over medium-low heat, toast the melt in butter for 6-7 minutes on each side, or until both sides have a nice golden colour.
4. Serve and enjoy!

I prefer open face tuna melts, but this looked pretty delicious(although I would prefer to steam it a bit to melt the cheese more). For my tuna melts I’ll mix tuna, mayonnaise, mustard, diced pickles, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic and onion powder, celery salt, and shredded cheese. Brush olive oil on both sides of the bread(fully covered but not soaked), then scoop the tuna mix onto the bread. I put more cheese on top then put it in the oven at about 350-375 Fahrenheit until the cheese is melted and the bottom is nice and golden brown(about 15-25 minutes depending on bread thickness and amount of tuna mix per slice). The cheese mixed in is a game changer if you’ve never tried it!

I appreciate that as a chef you want to elevate this by using: -green onion instead of red onion. -Freshly diced sweet pickle instead of sweet pickle relish. -Mozzarella instead of traditional American cheese. Mozzarella has got to go. Use cheddar or Gouda or even Gruyère if you must The bread ratio is off too. A little less bread would be better I think. My biggest problem though is that you didn’t mash the tuna enough! I hate chunky tuna. The tuna needs to be smashed with a fork until it flakes. Then only enough mayo to moisten. The tuna should stick together and not be crumbly. Sorry to be so picky but for the sake of better sandwiches I felt compelled to let you know. ❤❤
