There are also a lot of "Easter eggs" for fans in here. For example, what Miku is writing at the beginning is "World Domination" - and notice when they all have ramen, and are all waiting - except Akane, who known for her big appetite, says to hell with you guys, I'm eatin! The fact that they actually changed the lyrics to the Kyoto dialect is also no small thing. So - if you want more Band-Maiko, you really need to check out the one and only (no maid pun intended) song written "only" for Band-Maiko, which is a gorgeous song called Gion Cho - the official MV is on their channel.

Well done! Of all the Band-Maid songs, this one might be my most fiercely "protective" of. Thank you guys so much for being so open and respectful while watching it! Hey, to each their own; I hold no grudge against the people who don't care for it, but just as, that also allows me to then voice my opinion, and it puts me into snarl mode when they slight it with off hand critiques, or don't even really pay attention. I mean, why are they even doing a reaction, if all they want to do is cringe humor and miss most of the song trying to make clever condescending witticisms?

You should check out the Band-Maid original MV for comparison - Band-Maid "Secret My Lips". The April fools joke was bigger than you think. On April 1st 2018 the Band-Maid website and You Tube channel was taken down and replaced by Band-Maiko. All music was removed and replaced with this MV. They stated this was their new direction. They also don't sing in normal Japanese dialect, they sing in Kyoto dialect. They also changed their names: Saiki became Fujiki Miku became Hatoko Kanami became Kanoemi MISA became Umemisa Akane became Akatsuki In 2019 they did it again on April 1st releasing the MV to "Gion-Cho" - the only Band-Maiko original. They also released a seven track EP of Band-Maid covers with added traditional instruments plus "Gion-Cho" "Secret Maiko Lips" (Band-Maids "Secret My Lips") "Akasimahen" (Band-Maids "Awkward") "Ansan" (Band-Maids "Anemone") "Tora and Tora" (Band-Maids "One and Only") "Yolosiosu" (Band-Maids "YOLO") "Screaming" (Band-Maids "Screaming") "Gion-Cho" Check out "Gion-Cho" for more Band-Maiko - it's beautiful! (Gion is the Maiko district of Kyoto) The only band I know that formed a covers band of themselves!

As this was a cover you should listen to the original song Secret MY Lips by BAND-MAID. There is only one original BAND-MAIKO song GION-CHO. Either way you can't go wrong. Peace. 2.47

Miku also created a great April Fool joke a couple of years sgo by introducing Cluppo, an independent artist with her own genre of music, HippyPoppo, and then released a single (the excellent 'Peace & Love') followed by 3 more songs and an EP. Band-Maid's talent agency even advrrtised her as a newly signed artist. An April Fool joke that gave us 5 songs thst were better than most Pop/Rock songs of the time.

Nice to meet you. I always enjoy looking at your works. I am Japanese and I would like to explain the lyrics used in this song. (I try to comment on Band-Maiko's reactions with this explanation, so I know some of you guys who read this comment section have already read it somewhere else, but I'll post it here as well.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In all the songs of BAND-MAIKO, Saiki uses the word called "京ことば Kyo-kotoba (Kyoto dialect)". The Kyo-kotoba has many special phrases that are different from the so-called "Kansai-ben (Kansai region dialect. Kyoto is included in the Kansai region)", and even if you are from Kyoto, it is not a word that ordinary people other than maiko and geisha use on a daily basis. Many maiko are not from Kyoto, but when working as a maiko in Kyoto, it is not desirable to use the dialect of the region in which they were born and raised. Therefore, the training content of Maiko includes the acquisition of this Kyo-kotoba. The Kyo-kotoba is, so to speak, a "common language" for maiko and geisha. ※ "Maiko (Pronunciation is my-ko)" means a person in the apprenticeship stage of Geiko (Geisha). The Japanese instrumental sounds used are 三味線　Shamisen A Shamisen is a three-stringed traditional Japanese musical instrument derived from the Chinese instrument sanxian. It is played with a plectrum called a Bachi. 琴　Koto Japanese stringed instrument that resembles a zither; has a rectangular wooden sounding board and usually 13 silk strings that are plucked with the fingers. 和太鼓　Wadaiko Japanese drums. 尺八　Shakuhachi A shakuhach is a Japanese longitudinal, end-blown flute that is made of bamboo. However, in fact, the actual instruments are not used, but rather the composer/guitarist KANAMI typed the sounds of the Japanese traditional instruments.

The first time I saw this video I was stunned, because I've always been a fan of traditional Asian instruments. That was one of the things that drew me to Wagakki Band, who created a whole new sound mixing the traditional with the modern. The I heard The HU Band from Mongolia, who also mix traditional with modern instruments. And then there's a young lady from Taiwan named Ni Ni who does rock covers on traditional Chinese instruments, some of which she has built herself. But enough about that. Watching this, and then Gion-Cho, which is another great song that was written specifically for Band-Maiko and is also an artistic wonder of a video, got me interested in the geisha culture and I did some research. The full geisha costume (not what the girls wore) consists of seven layers of clothing that can weigh 35 pounds or more, and the geisha has to be dressed because it's impossible to do it singlehanded, especially the final touch, the obi, or sash that must be wound very tightly very much like a corset. From what I saw in the "making of" video for Gion-Cho, they only wore one layer of clothing, but the fabric is so stiff and heavy that a lot of effort into playing the instruments while wearing them. Akane had to take frequent breaks because the sleeves were so heavy. You can notice in the videos that she doesn't raise her arms very high like she normally does. You have to react to Gion-Cho, it is a piece of art, not just a music video, and the song itself is just perfect for the subject matter. And to think that Miku wrote all the lyrics in the Kyoto dialect is also amazing, but the videos are an homage to Kyoto, the ancestral home of geisha culture in Japan. It's the little things like this that make Band Maid the prime female band on the planet. They also outshine a lot of male groups. And the howl you hear in the video is actually Misa, who recorded it for the video, lol. Somehow that doesn't surprise me at all. Kanami also gained some valuable experience with the sound engineers doing these videos. They are at the top of heap in the music world today.

This Band Maiko…I’ve never seen them and Band Maid in the same place…I’m starting to get suspicious 🤨

So, they, that other band, just did their 3 1/2 hour 10th anniversary tour final at Yokohama arena and I was thinking maybe Band Maiko would show-up because 3-1/2 hours was 1-1/2 hr longer than their typical show. I was hoping for an hour set, a break, then the other band would do the 2nd set. They always say those kimonos are heavy to wear and I think they put Band Maiko to rest (there still is 4/1/2024). Well, no Band Maiko, but the other band filled out the whole 3-1/2 hours, Po! It was the most memorable show of the other band that I have been to, to date. I guess now you'll have to compare "secret my Lips" by the other band, Po! Great reaction, Sirs! 🦍🍌

There is a funny outtake from the video of "Secret Maiko Lips" where Misa, after doing her little whooping crane sound. Bent over and laughed her butt off after making that sound. There is another photo of Akane having to walk up some stone steps in some platform wooden sandals. The look she gave the photographer was, "If I fall in these things, someone's going to die!"

What a fcken band, can you imagine any of the stale, male western rock bands pulling of an April fools like this - Motley Crud, Guns n Aholes. This band is so incredibly next level, love the starting looks on your faces, just like Maidiacs everywhere, cheers 👍🍻

I do LOVE this band...they are very special.....But may I suggest another?...My second favourite Japanese female rock band..."TRiDENT"..A wonderful trio of ladies....Asaka (Lead guitar and vocals) Serina (Bass and vocals) Nagisa (drums)...Once known as "Girls Rock Band Kakumei" before changing of name in 2020 after original drummer JUNNA left (please check out JUNNA's drum covers..you will love'em)....Nagisa is just as good and possibly a better fit for the band...Tracks to check out.. "SPOOPY"....."Ambivalent" LIVE at Zepp..."Cry Out".....And a track from their JUNNA days "Voltage"..They do have a playful side..with tracks like "Splash"..(JUNNA days) and "Distination"...They are the only other female Japanese band where I have brought their music catalouge on CD (as with BAND-MAID)..Enjoy Po!.

A mako is a type of shark. A Maiko (My-Co) is an apprentice Geisha. Hence the play on words, and the BAND-MAID song 'Secret My Lips' becomes 'Secret Maiko Lips'. Also Geisha is pronounced (Gay-Sha). You seem to have a blind spot in your i's.
