Great video! Like a go kart! I had a 92 MR2 turbo 3SGTE with an LSD in the early 00’s, loved that car. With increased boost and high flow exhaust I would beat unsuspecting WRX’s, so much fun!

Back in the day I had one of these with the 16 valve engine. Other than some exhaust work and a full body aero kit it was stock. I never felt it was particularly slow. Also to me it had go kart feeling handling.

There's nothing like that natural induction sound when the throttle bodies are wide open. Who remembers the V8 carbie days when the secondaries of a 4 barrel opened up? BOOORRRP.

Years ago I had a hillclimb Gemini with a Z16 fully built engine, twin webers, big cam, cosworth valve springs, forged pistons, balanced everything, the whole bit. I was dyno'd at Rallyequip back in the day at 175 whp. We timed that car in the low 6s for 0 - 100. It was lighter than the MR2 at 920kg, and had a Japanese 4.11 diff so it pulled really hard from launch, but it was only an 8 valve head, and carbs, and wasn't really designed for standing start acceleration runs, so a low 6 should be easily attainable for the MR2 I reckon. Keep at it.

I used to have a RenaultSport Clio 172 on Jenvey throttles. Was 118kW atw and 1100kg. B14 coilovers, sticky tyres. Was a weapon. That noise was so addictive from the F4R and it had 220,000km on it and was unopened. Thrashed that car everywhere. It had home made mesh filters so was incoherently loud.

20v you have to hold that pedal down. You can usually flat shift it at 7500+ rpm . They would have put a 8500 engine limit in the tune. It did take me sometime to get use to a engine that doesn't start to get going until you are over the 5500 rpm range. Great job and have subscribed

Broooo i was on the corner of my seat, gobsmacked with the 6.7 sec 0-100 that's a mighty lil weapon for sure. My Daihatsu L700 that weighs like 800kg's with a GTVi 1.3L 4 banger does mid to late 7's factory kw to the crank is like 80kw or so #smolcarbois

Does this car have the 6-speed or the original 5-speed? HUGE difference between the 2. I did the 6-speed conversion in my 86 even though it still had the 4-valve engine.

the factory supercharged cars did 0-60 in 6.5 and quarter mile in 15 flat. immediate torque, auto SC bested the F40 from 0-30 making it the fastest car to run that sprint that year (Car and Driver I believe). the NA cars did mid 8s. All in optimal conditions, of course. Not to mention, t top SC cars were quite heavy and US cars had lots of heavy crash beams

Yes, first will get to 60, second just over 100. Be prepared to replace the synchros if you do it too often.

They've done a good job getting 160bhp out of a 1.8 litre 4. But, have you guys tried a 1000cc sports bike? Most of them now have @200bhp and weigh just over 200kg.

Ae86 with 20v do mid 6's but having a passenger makes it alot slower.

I had a seca with a 16 valve 4age and that was fun. But, you end up driving a bit fast sometimes 😁. Redline was 7600, and I've seen guys with the 20 valve revving to 8000.

If the tachometer was working, id say 6.2s is very possible to achieve, provided the driver shifts perfectly at 8250rpm.

Because it's a small car that has to have it from it's weight, and there's 2 of you I'm going to guess around 7 seconds. This thing revs idioticly high (redline at 8300) so if you rev it hard enough it should make it.
