Tunic is a unique and mysterious adventure game where absolutely nothing is explained and there are puzzles hiding in plain sight. This is one of the best puzzle games I've played in years, and it features a cute little fox and some gorgeous graphics to boot. Strap in for fifteen uninterrupted hours of gameplay where I go from start to story completion in a single stream.
Tunic is adorable and can be found here:

One of my favorite things about this game is the idea that you don't unlock mechanics over time, you unlock knowledge of them. The whole game is a master class in hiding things out of plain sight but providing the perfect affordances to clue in players who pay close attention.

Heartbreaking how he collected all the pages, the A prompt to talk with the Heir showed up but attacked instead. Then started New Game+. He chose the path of violence. As prophesied, the cycle begins anew... What a beast of puzzle solving though. Some I had to look up, but it was the first game I played with this kind of cryptic puzzle design, bring on 2.

It's interesting how he realises *very* early that the instruction manual is central to the game, that you either discover things on your own *or you read the manual*. The amount of times he walked in to a new area, and didn't defer to at least check that he had a map, or collected a page and then proceeded to haphazardly read a few select things on it, despite it describing core mechanics, is a strong constrast to an otherwise brilliant realisation.

One thing I love about tunic... the puzzles are not required to "finish" the game. to 100 percent, absolutely, but to get from start to end, you don't have to be a cryptographer. It's amazing, and one of the few games where puzzle solving isn't a chore, and more "this is actually fun".

This game gave me one of my favorite memories in all of gaming. When piecing together the Golden Path I recruited my dad and his trusty notebook, and he helped me find the clues and read them out to me to enter the sequence for the door. No other game has come close to recapturing that childhood magic of just gaming with my dad and I love Tunic for that.

It's such an insane puzzle which, I was like, there's no way in hell anyone would come up with this. This is absurd, there is no way that this is the solution. No game would have the cahones to put in a 30-50+ step input, I was making a mountain out of a mole hill. And then the door opened. One of the best puzzles I've solved in a while.

I also just wanna put forth that the I-frame dust mechanic is certainly a false positive, but not in the way that it's directly lying about where your I-frames are, rather in the way that the parts of the roll that _generate_ dust have I-frames, but since they can't just pop all the dust out of existence the moment the I-frames stop, the particles linger a little longer than the I-frames are active. Combined with the sometimes-lingering hitboxes of bigger and wilder boss attacks, or just outright mistimed dodges, it might sometimes come across as inaccurate.
@Bubble-Foam

@@Epicawesomeness64 This point exactly was bugging me so much. I was really disappointed to see him fall into the Gamer(tm) trap of “it must be the games fault, they must have made this poorly.” Like the manual literally shows the exact frames that have invincibility on them. Similar stuff with the siege engine fight too.

I love the detail that the maps were clearly created after some buildings and bridges had already been destroyed, and it's marked accurately on the map, but by the time you find the maps even more stuff has fallen to ruin. They could've very easily just done "the maps were created when everything is perfect and brand new" but they added stuff like that to really show the passage of time and it's so cool

Spoilers for early boss: I don't disagree that the physics are weird and a little janky on Siege Engine. However, there was one thing that really shot you in the foot on that fight: You didn't know how to RUN at that point. Siege Engine is like half as hard if you know how and when to start running instead of just dodging. Running is huge for getting out of the way of big, telegraphed attacks, and conserving stamina, and I think Siege Engine is totally exemplary of that. It's REALLY hard to get behind Siege Engine without running, and deeply frustrating. The moment I started running, though, the boss really opened up. Still tricky, but very doable and fairly consistent. Again, though, I have to agree - The physics really struggle with that fight, and it could have used some work in that regard. Edit: Yep, you finally figured out how to run. Excited to see if you figure out just how useful it is :) Edit 2: Aaand immediately you realized that Siege Engine would have been way easier with running. Congratz, good video :)

7:27:02 just to clarify cause it's come up a bunch of times, you lose the i frames on the roll when you run out of stamina, page 16 the one about stamina also explains this in the "evade" column, saying green stamina gives you a "moment of safety" but running out leaves you "vulnerable"... It would be a fair criticism of the game if it were lying to you but in this case it isn't, you just happened to miss where it does tell you... Edit and also spoilers WAIT WHAT?! I like how at around 1 hour 35 you get asked whether or not this would be sort of a fez-like, and I find it rather funny at that specific time. AFter playing the game, I would definitely call this game the ultimate lovechild of Fez, Hyper Light Drifter and Zelda :)

I have never used twitch, ever. But your content is literally the most ideal form of content for how i interact with it on the platform, you and hour long video essays with passion. I am honestly considering giving a go at twitch, as a service entirely, because of how much i enjoy the type of content you produce, and the style you put into it.

Super cool video! Watched the whole playthrough, and just want to clarify when you talk about the invincibility on the roll it does in fact work against basically everything in the game with very very few exceptions. The I frames are only right at the start of the roll so all the times where you got hit while you were rolling is simply because you rolled much too early. Similarly to Dark Souls you need to wait until just as a boss swings and dodge with it.

ok so...this was amazing... I didn't realize how deep the game was at first when I started watching, and by the time I did, I was in too deep. So I loved watching this awesome playthrough, but the ending was a bummer haha needed to talk to them, and was kinda miffed with the entire chat for not reminding him about the other potential ending mentioned in the very letter he solved at the end, All in all, super great playthrough to binge, deffo gonna have to try and catch more, though there's no way that I'd be able to sit with him through the whole thing, one day I might try haha

Definitely late to the party, but in some of the instances where you thought you should have had i-frames (e.g. 7:10:28), you were in the exhaustion state, which negates a lot of stamina-related abilities, including a proper roll

This inspired me to finally play Tunic. The only annoying thing is Thor not understanding the I frames in the Dodge. Fox is only invisible during the initial tuck of his head. The rest of the roll doesn't have any dust, therefore no I frames. Thor kept getting hit coming out of his roll (no dust). Get the bone and the whole roll becomes invincible.

i thinks its funny how wrong thor was ehrn it came to his rolls. when you're watching itand not the one playing its clear to see that he just isn't great at rolling every time he gets upset he just isn't realizing he's out of stamina. it happens pretty frequently

tons of disappointments in the playthrough tbh. lack of care for the lore, lack of exploration both on the manual and more. and abysmal tbh and quite the let down. felt very rushed and very like not given the amount of attention this game deserves.

at 7:25:10~ you didn't die, you had shield up and it blocked the explosion, but he ate it and died. You can see a couple of frames where your stamina gauge is above your character and it was like 60% depleted.
