Tupolev TU-154 aircraft are now becoming very rare, these Russian TriJets were once the backbone of Eastern European airline fleets. The jets also sold to countries with with the former USSR had strong trading relationships.
Rare in western skies, I was lucky to catch a few rotations over the years, and decided to try to upscale some of my footage and remaster for better quality.
Please be aware that TU154 aircraft are older generation and therefore are very noisy in comparison to modern aircraft. That said, it's this kind of nostalgia that attracts many people interested in aviation.
I hope you will enjoy this new video, since the raw footage was filmed in HD, this is an attempt to upscale. For more true 4K source videos please check my channel / bananamanuk .

As a kid i loved traveling by these planes. Despite being noisy from the outside they are quiet from the inside. They fly very smooth, handle all turbulence with grace. I do really miss them now :) Your video brought some good ol' memories! Thank you!

What a gorgeous aircraft. This and the Vickers VC-10 are two of my favourites. Sure, they're old school and inefficient but they're just so pretty. The Handley Page Victor is right up there on my list, also. Nice video. Thanks for posting this.

It's always nice to see and hear aircraft that are becoming rare, they are a treat to the eyes and ears (well, the latter, perhaps not for some!, but certainly for most avgeeks!) I would have loved to have filmed a commercial VC10 that aircraft looks fantastic. I enjoy having a look at the one at Duxford a while back.

Great videos of the famous Tupolev TU-154 series aircraft. Brings back memories. Used to fly on these as a passenger regularly back in the 80s when I was an architectural student in the former USSR. Very tough aircraft, amazing performance, and easily outclasses the Trident and the Boeing 727 of which it only shares its rear tri-engined configuration and T-tail. Contrary to popular belief, it not a clone of either of those aforementioned airliners. Trivia; I was once on a TU-154 night-flight from Lagos to Tripoli back in the 80s. It took off one hour late, and somehow managed to make up that hour during the flight, arriving on schedule in Tripoli. The steep descent into Tripoli was.....fascinating, involving semi-acrobatic turns, and a final 90 degree left turn on to the final glide path for Tripoli - and the airport was in full view and very close, before that final turn and touch down. Nostalgic indeed!

Wonderfully-made video! Very professional, I love how smooth the segments are & how there is no sound of wind blowing against the microphone. While I am an American & I have always preferred western aircraft, I have also admired the passenger jets of the Soviet era & what they were able to accomplish. Thank you for your video work!

AWESOME! Glad you decided to upscaled this special video full of avgeek goodies! I love the warnings :) I filmed once an extremely rare Yakovlev YAK-40 (OM-BYL) of Slovakia at Bern and said that the impressive engine sound would lie along the upper limit. Well, a group fighting against flight noise embedded my video then on their website to show which terribly loud aircraft came to Bern. But they praised my video though. Maybe you will make a similar experience with your warnings ;) Fantastic video!!! Cheers Matt

Thoroughly enjoyed your video, rekindled happy memories. I worked at Stansted in handling operations from 1981 to 2001. During that time worked many Tu154 flights including those of Aeroflot, Balkan, Malev, Tarom, LOT as well as one or two VIP ones. Also worked Tu134s, Il18, Il76, An12, An22, An124. Happy days!

They are still great looking although I doubt they are environmentally friendly, you would almost think the engines were diesel with the amount of black exhaust gases coming from the engines. Very enjoyable viewing. Cheers mate.

+IRISHROVER It's hard to imagine back in the 60's and 70's the sights of aircraft taking off would be followed by trails of black smoke. Sadly I wasn't around to witness this but it is striking how fast technology has moved to improve the environmental impact of transport generally. Great video. Love the Noise Warnings! This was normal for me at STN as a kid, standing 50 metres from the runway 05 threshold. A 737-200, 1-11, 707 or DC-8 would make your ears bleed, it was frightening, the air crackling noise those coal burners made!

Nice Video...Stansted Airport is one of Single Terminal Busiest Airport in UK..London Stansted Airport is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen officially opening the iconic terminal building and London’s third major airport on 15 March, 1991.. So far..Millions passengers are Travelled, Tons of Cargo Moved , 100s of destination places, Thousands of people are worked in Airport...Nice Journey of 25 years, hope it will be continued too..

Ilyushin 62 is obsolete. 96 version 400 with aviadvigatel PD18 or P&W is a perfect solution against the much more expensive Airbus 330/340 or Boeing 777. The new era of Russian airplanes is Yakovlev Irkut MC21 against to Airbus 320 Boeing 737. But about middle hi distance wide fuselage, they have to try more in order to get market share

(CZ) Česko/slovenští piloti létali na Tu-154M nejlépe ze všech provozovatelů tohoto typu. Ruští piloti sedávali příďovým kolem napřed, bez podrovnání s odskokem, nebo start natáhli až na úplný konec ranveje. Piloti ČSA a slovenské vládní letky, neudělali s Tu-154M žádný pohyb, ani manévr navíc, než optimální. Na piloty a techniky ČSA se mohl cestující plně spolehnout a v jejich rukách byla ruská technika naprosto profesionálně provozovaná.

out of 1,026 built "Since 1968 there have been 39 fatal incidents involving the Tu-154, most of which were caused either by factors unrelated to the aircraft, or by its extensive use in demanding conditions." - Wikipedia. So I honestly cannot say it is poor safety record for the plane itself.

There are obviously similarities in appearance between the aircraft; but each had different operating characteristics and appealed to very different markets.
