This was good to see. I actually just had a trans build, early 4L80-E with a Jake’s D3 Pro trans brake. I saw you previously had a video saying daily driving with a trans brake is bad. I was hoping because the D3 is a different trans brake, it would be daily driver friendly and not wipe out the pump with continuously too much pressure.

@wheeliebad11B6 ай бұрын
Every builder is different. There are a number of ways to do things in a trans. The only way to get good is to do the work and test the combos. A guy that rebuilds for dailies is going to do things differently than a guy that builds for the strip. Clutch pack clearance is a good example I can think of. On a strip application, a little lose is going to have less drag, but wear faster. Tight would have more drag but mile out better. Keep in mind when dealing with performance, non stock applications, there is very little info out there, and the guys that have it are drying up fast. Thankfully, we get to see a master of his craft explain his thoughts and experience.

While cleanliness isn't a guarantee of professional work, it's an indicator. Would you ever accept getting an IV started or blood drawn my medical staff without their hands being washed and the site disinfected? Unlike the immaculately professional Richard, there are too many grease monkeys out there. Well done as always Richard. Right as Richard wiped the camera, a dish detergent commercial came on for Platinum plus. From this (dirty) to this (clean).

Wow, they seem so complex inside and seems like only a pro could know what to do for rebuild properly. I myself put together a th 350 and th 400 in the past but they were still working when I took them apart. I have a 4L80E in a 1999 chevy trailblazer 141,000 miles and I think I might buy a new remanufactured unit when I need one. After watching this video I sure know what goes bad and what is done, especially that tig welding thing you mentioned. I think a remanufactured unit through O'Reilly's Auto Parts is tagged at over $1800, apart from the $2300 engine I am bout to throw in due to a spun rod bearing.
