Old video, I know. But just an FYI, pretty much ALL VF series turbos will have that same crack by the wastegate flapper, and it does NOT affect boost in any measurable way. Even a brand new VF turbo will develop that same crack in a very short amount of time. Don't worry about it.

I have a 06 wrx and it also has a crack in the turbo wastegate. Im also concerned that its the reason for my oil consumption since there are no leaks/burning smell that emmits from it. Thank you for this video!! I now know what to expect when swapping to a vf48

use carbon steel extension rod and sockets, they are thick and can withstand the breaker bar. what you used was a thin one.

Did you tune the car afterwards?
@AdamPE21
@AdamPE21 Жыл бұрын
Did not, I have been monitoring AFR, knock, DAM, etc and everything looks to be fine over 2k miles. Reading up the forums and elsewhere it doesnt look like there are many (or any) differences between the two turbos.

@@AdamPE21 I would highly reccomend a tune afterwards for the longevity of the car, Everything air in or air out on a subaru requires a tune, regardless of how small it is.

Its basically the same turbo… no tune need

@@Cstil18 The vf48 is definitely a larger turbo but not by much, the vf43 and vf39 are much more similar if thats what you meant? i would be suprised if any car makes it past 30,000 miles like that... especially if you are on the boost alot lol
