Was there any hardware that didn’t work and how was the graphics performance? What release did you upgrade to?

@@PaulieM All the hardware is fine. The 2011 Macbook Pro is perhaps slightly sluggish, but I will swap out for a SSD and 16GB of Ram. Just gotta make sure you run all the post-install root patches. It's currently running Monterey. iMac is upgraded to Sonoma and running fine.

Very nice detailed video. Been seeing some decent deals at ebay for 2011 MBP and been inching to get one and play around with it. Maybe for my birthday to myself for later this year.

Hi, great video, I just brought a well preserved MacBook Pro 2011, it has latest high seria installed with all its latest update, I plan on doing this ssd drive and memory upgrade. Could you make a video installing the latest Mac software using open source etc, be great to see if you can get the very latest software on an older MacBook and how well it runs . Thanks

I actually did try it before I gave it back to the owner. It installed no problem but the experience wasn’t great. I also tried google Chrome OS Flex which worked really well.

I imagine that they would, but there would no doubt be some minor differences. But I don't have one of those so I can't say for sure. But it will certainly have a SATA Hard drive so you will be able to swap that for SSD for sure.

I upgraded the RAM on my early 2011 about 6 years ago to 16GB and it uses a 2.5" SATA HD so I think you're good. I still have my early 2011 MBP and will be upgrading to an SSD very soon

Very informative video. I have a 2013 MacBook Pro, and have been wondering about these exact upgrades. I’m pretty computer illiterate, but this looks remarkably straightforward. I’m a bit confused, though, as the SSD in the clip is a different shape from the one in the Amazon link.

I have seen people putting thermal paste somewhete there, do we need that in these case?

Do you have to worry about static?

You should earth yourself before touching the ram really, or use a static strap. I do worry about static electricity if I am outside in a lightning storm though.
