This is part 2 of our DIY Poor mans Ironworker build. Check the playlists for other videos in this series. In this one we are building a mobile cart or base wiht adjustable leveling feet so we can really dial in the height to perfectly match the edge of our welding table.. We used some 1-1/4" threaded rod and nuts to create the leveling feet, along with some roller bearing guides that we purchased from harbor freight.
Here is the playlist for all of hte videos in this series.
• DIY IRONWORKER BUILD
We are ultimately going to be using a harbor freight trailer jack and pipe threader to provide the linear actuation of the knife cutting action. You obviously could do a hydraulic jack or some other type of air or electric over hydraulic to provide the pressure. DIY Metal Cutter.

Cool project, a kit for a diy belt grinder similar to the one you have would probably sell very well

yes, definitely. There are already a few out there that look pretty good, so may not make one of those, but this thing is going to be unique, haven't seen anyone else offer anything like it yet

Your brackets look great. I'm still learning on my cnc plasma and need to get better at getting perpendicular edges on the plate, using the hypertherm 65. My recent personal projects have been made with scrap I either had left from jobs for others, or remnants I pickup at the big steel supplier because they catch my eye and look like they would work for various projects. It does keep the out of pocket expense lower and uses up material that is otherwise just waste. Did you consider a three leg stand.......like a tripod? That teetering of a 4 leg stand is a familiar sight. My welding table is a few fab blocks bolted together and set on a frame that I built with adjustable legs, so it does not wobble. My blast cabinet and horizontal compressor aren't adjustable and they do wobble on the concrete. For my table, I made work stops/pins with 5/8" rod and collar stops. You can set them in an L pattern and square two sides of your tube frame and clamp the tube to the table, then use squares for the other two tubes. Great video!

Thanks man, yea I actually did think about a 3 point cart. if its done right and you have the right footprint dimension on the base i think it can work well and eliminate the rocking from weld warpage. The main reason I made the cart adjustable was to be able to get the level of it, at the same level as the table so I can slide things off the edge of the table over onto the shear and trim things up, etc

I'll be curious to see if the harbor freight casters hold up. I hope so as it seems like a good solution

I think it will be fine, This is mostly going to be a stationary cart, and doesn't have alot of weight on it. Thanks Paul
