Hi Pete, enjoying my cup of coffee while I watch your new video. I'm with you on the TTTF and letting it chill during the summer. I went to the beach too in June/July for two weeks and didn't water it and cut it when I returned. It was still green w/no signs of stress. Right now we've been getting nailed with upper 90s and 100 degree days here in Maryland this last weekend and on Monday. I still haven't cut it after two weeks and it's still green. My neighbors who cut weekly have a decent amount of heat stress, but mine does not. Good luck on your experiment and looking forward to seeing the results.

Hello 👋 love what you are doing. I’m glad that you are in North Carolina to see and understand heat and the right grass to put down. Lol, I have a mix of shade grass. But since I trimmed my tree up for the sun to hit the grass. The grass is not like I want to look like. Thank you for your tips on what grass to use. I really like the way tall fescue looks. O I forgot I live in Virginia. I will be working on my yard this August aerating and fertilizing and overseeing with tall fescue. Thanks again 💪 Delmar

This is really neat to see Pete I’ve been following the cool season program. I have TTTF due to everything going on this year with prices sky rocketing on everything I have had to cut back. I hated to do it but it is what it is. This season I put down protein in may and the spring and prodiamene in the spring. That’s it. I’ve been really shocked how well my turf has hung in there. I got some trouble spots with disease and a few weeds here and there but my turf still looks fine. Honestly I’m not worried because I know in the fall when I aerate and over seed and start feeding again it will come back to life. It’s hard to see problems in the turf and do nothing about it. But I just have to keep telling my self the fall it will all be fixed.

@@colnathanrjessup687 so you don't really know the Truth Col Jessup!!! For comparison, i used Ryan Knor TTTF last year on a previous lawn renovation (moved twice last year). It came in well and tolerated the heat but the blades were thinner and jist didn't have the deep dark thick blades like gci does. I definitely love this grass!!!! Hey Pete, Thanks for continued lawn care info. I did a lawn reno last fall sign TTTF/KBG. It was a costly project but needed to be done. Do I have overseeded tall fescue yearly? I believe In one of your past videos you mentioned that. If so, to cut down on costs, is top dressing with like pest moss necessary? I have 10k sq and the pest most was pretty costly last year. My lawn came in beautifully with this seed.

I experimented with organic products this year, combined with compost tea. The Milorganite fert I used is recommended four times per year. This includes a July application which times perfectly with the July rains (July is wettest month here). Grass came out of dormancy and looks dark green. No disease yet. Have watered very little, but weeds and crab grass are thriving.

I’ve been messing around putting down low rates of Greene punch during the summer. I try to wait until we get some weather where the temps drop to the low 80s for a stretch and then do a low rate foliar spray with natural adjuvant. So far the results are amazing. This is in addition to spoon feeding with 5-0-5 and microgreene. Also I think the GreeneKick is really doing a great job with stress and water retention. Earlier this summer I was doing a lot of hand watering of the edges of my lawn in addition to running the irrigation. It just needed it. But since using Greene Kick the edges have stayed green and lush and haven’t needed any supplemental water.

I actually did the same thing this year with my fescue. Right before the hottest days of 90+ with no rain I cut the grass to about 3.5 inches which is an inch lower than my normal height. Then bombed it with about .85 Lb NPK all slow release. Stayed off the grass for 4 weeks. Never looked this good. It’s rocking and rolling through the hot days still great color and no signs of stress. No irrigation whatsoever.

The weather has made my lawn season go south fast first we had one month of spring weather then straight to summer, then early in the season we had way to much rain, I was not able to fertilize because it would have washed away and when we finally got a break from the rain we had none for a week straight and my yard started to suffer and I lost the battle for now. When the fall comes around I will make sure that I come back with a vengeance. My fescue looks great but is starting to take a small hit, I have other grass types I am not sure of and those went dormant fast.

You are on track with the slow release N in the summer. Here we have always advocated to switching to an Organic fert for Fescue in Summer. What would get you would be salt burn. Hi Pete Charles from Middle TN, I've done that 2 years in row. I fertilized my GCI Cool Blue at a full rate of 30-0-10. Of course I had already pretreated for fungus. The only bad thing that came out of doing that was I had to cut twice a week. I had no disease pressure, no browning, melting out, nothing but a thinck dark green lawn (I also put down Iron), I did my application mid July without changing my watering habits. I'll tell you, you are not likely to experience problems in the lawn. I love mowing so certainly didn't mind cutting twice a week. Since that's my schedule in fall and winter anyway. Anyway, just my two cents, which don't mean a whole hill of beans. You're in NC so things may be different for you. But I've not had any issues. Wish I could attach a picture for you.

Looking for suggestions here... I live in Wisconsin now and my grass is a mixture of rye and fine fescue and some tall fescue. It's pretty thick in some places, and maybe only 70% thick in other places. I just moved from southern VA, where I had a lawn of just pure tall fescue and loved it, so I bought some GCI TTTF for up here. Question is... Can I overseed my lawn with the TTTF and thicken it up? Maybe over time it will become mostly TTTF if I keep doing that? Or should I like completely renovate/burn down the old grass and start fresh? Has anyone else ever had experience with overseeding TTTF into something that's a mixture of other grasses?

I really want a tall fescue lawn, but I live in Birmingham, AL. Is it worth trying this far south?

What would you suggest between bluegrass and tall fescue? I live in Indiana, have irrigation, and want a touch notch yard.

I think you’d be fine with either turf type sir. We have hundreds of customers in IN that have both KBG and TTTF gciturfacademy.com/collections/gci-grass-seed

Nice, I am wondering, do you have any thoughts about Texas Bluegrass? I've heard it holds its color longer through hot summers. I also live in an arid climate, hot (100 degree+) summers, cool/cold winters, very sunny, no disease pressure at all (Havent applied any fungicides for 13 years at this house). What is the best grass for me?

I can not speak on texas bluegrass because i have never seen it or heard of it. I can say blue heat would probably hold up just as well as long as you have irrigation
