Without a quota permit for opening weekend of turkey season, Josh Harris decides to brave the swamp of Jumper Creek in search of a turkey or at least some dry ground that a turkey could walk on.

I thought I was the only one who walked that far back into that nasty swamp. I agree with you, Jumper Creek can be a miserable place to hunt but when I don't get any quota permits that's where I go. I killed one in there a few weeks back after a long walk so I guess I can't complain .... but most of the time I do complain when I get back to the truck dripping sweat and worn out. It's gonna be about 50 degrees out in the morning so I'm giving it a last try for the season while its a little cool. The patience style of hunting you mentioned can be a good technique out there as I think they don't always gobble good but may come in silent. Thanks for the video, it made me laugh at the start of the video when you described the swamp you were walking thru. I've described it the same way to friends who have never hunted there.

Great video once again! I did chuckle though as I had my own experience at Jumper Creek a few years ago, but I had a quota and it was during general gun. It was raining, overcast, and I had walked in pretty far only to have the sole of one of my boots get sucked down into the mud, never to appear again. I will say though that it was pure luck when I saw an 8-point, while at the same time I was sitting on the ground basically getting ready to call it a day. Unfortunately, because I was totally unprepared I lost my chance and he walked off. Take care my man, and I look forward to your next video.

I'll take Alabama over Fl. I have acreage on eastern side of Green Swamp off St. Rd. 33...but hearing the boomers in an Alabama bottom is a beautiful thing. In my youth I've done the mud thing state wide. It's definitely not for everyone and being younger certainly helps. Enjoyed the scenery, everything greening up good. Appreciate the location I.D., video of some pine stand or palmetto scene doesn't give away the location when you say where you are hunting.

Josh, I got an archery quota for a management area I’ve never been to before, just north of Tampa. That being said, I’m kind of torn as to where I should set my only game cam. I’ve been scouting and hunting going Goethe for the last couple of years and feel that I’d have a greater chance of bagging something there; however, I’m not sure if I should take the cam to the new area (Richloam) instead being that it may offer more opportunities. Any thoughts?

Hey, I’ve bee going to Richloam since I began hunting and I love it. Lots of pressure during gun season but very few people archery hunt there and it is really big so you usually have the area you scout to yourself. Around the rivers are a little more pressured. I like hunting the edges of cypress swamps at Richloam and I’ve had some success over the years. I don’t use trail cams there but if I did I’d find an area where game trails cross and set it up. One thing to note is that many of the deer rut really late there. Some years back I was hunting archery there with my brother and he shot a buck in full velvet on October 2. So don’t be surprised if you don’t see a lot of rubs if you’re scouting in September or October. Good luck and maybe I’ll see you out there!

@@floridagrownandgathered8775 Hey Josh, thank you for the quick response and info! I typically scout around the cypress domes myself and though I’ll see lots of evidence doesn’t always pan out. Still fun though. I’ll definitely be heading up to Richloam in the coming weeks to see what I can see. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks again!
