What’s the diff between a lick and a riff?

I tend to think of a lick as something you use in the framework of a solo. A riff can be a repetitive idea too, but it is more about being an integral part of the song and its development. In other words, we write a riff and that can become the intro and the chorus of the song and we base other parts of the song around that riff as well (think Sweet Child of Mine for example).
