Turn on 120hz for PS5 - HDMI 1.4 and 2.0 Works!

3 жыл бұрынOk, so I had a LOT of people comment on my other videos asking how they can get 120fps / 120hz enabled on their PS5 so I made a quick video to show you - and YES, it does work on HDMI 1.4 as well as HDMI 2.0 monitors - you just have to set it to 1080p, turn off HDR, and set it to performance mode. And this works for all games on PlayStation 5.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. WE NEED 1440p support on the PS5. They're a tech company ffs. How hard is it to add a resolution most people have had for years?!??!

Exactly. Another thing I don't understand is how Sony couldn't add a LOWER resolution than 4K. If they can already output/support 4K, why can't they support something that's lower?!

This video guide worked for me. I use an ASUS VG278Q Monitor and at first i followed the steps in this video and it was stuck at 60hz but after I deleted the MW2 beta saved data and launched the game it set itself to 120hz. 👍

Just double-check in your manual that your monitor supports 1080p at 120hz. Some older 1440p monitors didn't support that resolution or some required you to turn a setting off to get it to work.

@@eccosx hmm I checked the manual for it and it says it supports 1080/120hz. Which games are you trying (just make sure they are 120hz) and if they are, the only other thing would be to swap HDMI cables in case you’re using an old one that doesn’t support at least HDMI 1.4.

Have you enabled 120hz? In the video it isn’t shown but you have to put (in the first menu) 120hz on automatic (if you stop the video and watch on the bottom of the screen it is put on automatic like I said)and you can leave the game preset to whatever you want, it isn’t going to change the consoles performance but only the game quality setting (exactly like the name suggests…) that you can change manually if the game lets you

I hope you answer or anyone that knows how to answer my question but I think you’d be the best to answer it because I actually have a LG - UltraGear 27" IPS LED QHD FreeSync and G-SYNC Compatible Monitor with HDR 10 (DisplayPort, HDMI) and I have those settings you were talking about on the ps5 correct but for some reason freesync doesn’t show is it because I’m using just an hdmi 2.1 cable or do I need to actually have a DisplayPort to actually be able to see the freesync option because I can’t see it and if I do need any kind of cable what is it and where can I buy it

This monitor in the video is with the PS5 cable but the monitor only has HDMI 1.4. However, it also requires that your monitor supports 120hz over hdmi. You have to check the manual to see supported resolutions.

No. Response time is largely marketing. Monitors with the same response time can perform way different in real life. I also have a 1ms TN panel and I can’t tell the difference between that and this. It also has a 1ms mode which I’ve been using but also can’t tell a difference.

THE MONITOR NEEDS TO SUPORT HDMI 2.1 IN ORDER TO WORK AT 120HZ...I have an Samsung Odisey g5 and it only supports hdmi 2.0 so it gets stuck at 60hz. Also for those in this situation there is an converter that does hdmi 2.1 to display port 1.4 out there. Good luck!

When I click information for the connected HDMI device in screen and video settings, it says the frequencies are 50hz, 60hz, and 120hz so it should run 120fps. My monitor is 240hps so there should be no problem. I have hdr off and performance mode on but it still works. My hdmi cable support 8k as well as 120hz so idk what the problem is.

The game also has to support 120hz and be set to 120hz. Some LG monitors also have to have HDMI Compatibility set to off in the settings.

@@JustinRevesJust 120Hz Capability. It's odd, it's a recently released Sony X90K Bravia, and on my PS5 Monitor does not allow me to add the new 1440p. A shame, but at least I can play 120fps with VRR format. But the real thing is that I don't really understand the 3840 x 2160 -120Hz displayed, as it does not state 120Hz at 1080p.

It’s not a bug.. ur monitor must be 1440p. ‘Automatic’ means it’s in 2160p. It’s upscaled. Basically it’s just 1440p. But u’ll be stuck at 60fps. So put it in 1080p if u really need 120fps. Otherwise don’t change anything.

Either should be just fine. Just needs to be HDMI 1.4 and up which both are.

Your monitor may not support 1920x1080 at 120hz over HDMI. Check your manual.

Hi Justin. I just picked up a monitor to compliment the PS5 and I've been reading about FreeSync potentially clashing with response time settings and/or anti motion blur. I've noticed you seen to have all of them enabled (edit nvm, you don't have anti motion blur on but I think I'd need it so any light you can shed on it would be greatly appreciated), though I presume the PS5 probably doesn't use FreeSync at the moment? Would you have to have any knowledge on how they may be interacting with each other? I was a bit lost lmao. My monitor is an MSI if that helps :) I've tested and confirmed I can get 120fps but I'm not sure which monitor settings combos are optimal right now. Thanks!

Ps5 dosent support free sync atm. Thus the only ideal recommendation would be to use to the best motion clarity settings & fastest response time available on your monitor.

I just wasn't sure if FreeSync or anti motion blur had any unwanted side effects (such as more ghosting for the former, or extra input lag for the latter). I think the fastest response time setting forces anti motion blur on and locks it, so I'd definitely want to know if that combo would cause extra input lag on top of inverse ghosting

Why do I get 120hz without performance mode enabled. I have the same monitor. When I do enable performance mode it lags in warzone. So my question is what's the point of performance mode when it lags in game and performs better disabled and I still get 120hz from the automatic 120hz enabled.

I own an HDMI 2.0 monitor, but the PS5 comes with HDMI 2.1 cable, I'm afraid to not being able to play at 120hz since it doesn't have HDMI 2.1, the monitor's description literally says "120Hz Compatible for PS5 and Xbox series X" tho, I currently use it on my PS4 but I originally bought it so that I can get 120hz when I get the PS5 console. will it works at 120hz if I got the PS5?

HDMI 2.0 can do either 4K/60fps or 120fps at 1080p or 1440p. It can't do 4K/120fps. But the PS5's HDMI 2.1 port and cable are backwards compatible so it will work perfectly with your monitor at 1080p/120hz. There are very, very few monitors in existence that have an HDMI 2.1 port for 4K/120hz support. Don't worry about it - PS5 looks fantastic at 1080/120hz.

I don’t use it but did you disable FreeSync first? Try turning off HDR on your PS5.

@@i6wa08 You still gotta check your manual and make sure it supports 120fps over HDMI at either 1080p or 1440p. But if it does and you have a next-gen console, you should be good.

Look at the “supported display modes” section of your manual. Only supports 100, 120, and 144hz at 3440x1440. Can’t do it at any resolutions the PS5.

I’m years later but I thinking of buying this monitor for my ps5. My question is that..will I be able to use 120hz by enabling it through the ps5 and monitor or do I need to buy a desktop and enable it that way first I’m confused on these things

Since this video was made, Playstation released an update to also support 1440p at 120hz (not just 1080p at 120hz when this video was made) so now most new monitors support 120hz for consoles at either 1080p or 1440p or often both. You can double-check the manual in advance on the monitor you are looking to buy by going to the back of the manual and looking under supported resolutions and making sure you see either 1920x1080 at 120hz or 2560x1440 at 120hz. Then you just have to put your PS5 in Performance Mode and make sure you're playing a game that supports 120hz and you should be good.

I have a HP X24ih, which goes to 144hz. But when i check on the monitor it only reads 60. I am using the hdmi cable that came with the ps5. What am i doing wrong?!? Edit: i works on some games, but not horizon forbidden west or destiny 2. ill try elden ring soon

Games have to support 120hz for it to work. Some games do and some don’t. If it works on any games at all, you have it setup properly.

Just confirming you're playing a 120hz game? Maybe check that it isn't an old HDMI cable - use the one that came with your PS5 if you can.

@@JustinReves Yes, it's a 120hz game. It's was a present for my son. I was just using the HDMI that came with the monitor. He's happy with the 60hz but I want to find out how to get the 120hz. I'll try the PS5 HDMI, if that doesn't work, I don't know what the problem is. It displayed 120hz for a fraction of a second, and then went back to 60hz...so weird.

Thanks for the video! I live how affordable LG and MSI made these monitors for the specs. I hope they make one hdmi 2.1 comp in the future. I like that it's actually possible for 120hz but I hate the idea of limiting the hardware that much by doing so.

Do you mean that you have HDMI 1.4 or 2.0, and they doesnt work on console, so you want HDMI 2.1?

my samsung 32 curve is only 30hz. and only has 1 hdmi port for 2.0 or 1.4. i was on amazon earlier and just found a hdmi splitter in order to connect to play on my computer monitor, will i notice a difference when playing graphics wise? 3840x2160

Hi this might be late but I got my acer monitor it worked amazing for 3weeks and then today it goes back to 60hz when it was running 120 perfectly.on ps5 btw

Things to try: 1. Make sure you’re playing a game that is 120hz. 2. Make sure you are using an HDMI 1.4 or higher cable. 3. Try turning HDMI compatibility off. 4. Try turning adaptive sync off and on 5. Try turning 1ms MBRT off and on

I have a 144hz monitor I’m using, it works with my pc and all that, showing/advertising a possible 120hz display, my monitor is fully capable, I’m using the ps5 and the cable that it came with, send help cause it’s not working.

Have you checked the manual to see if it supports 1920x1080 at 120hz over HDMI? Some older ones only did it over DisplayPort.

What does your manual say? Look for supported resolutions over HDMI and see if there’s a 120hz option in there.
