Regardless if you are using salt or chlorine tablets to chlorinate your pool. You should still shock your pool on a weekly or at least biweekly basis. Especially if you constant rain or the demand on the chlorine is high. The rain will dilute your salt level. Check your phosphate levels.

That's good stuff. I use the hth shock in the 1 lb bags. That and alot of algaecide cleaned our pool after being covered all winter. I put some stuff in it for winter that didn't work at all. I never ever thought it would get clean. But the hth products along with scrubbing walls and backwashing the filter every 2 hrs to begin with and running it 24 hrs a day, about a week later (would have been sooner if I had an entire day to work on it) my pool is sparkling blue and ready for warm weather. We may have to convert ours to salt if the chlorine shortage gets bad. I have about 30 lbs of chlorine stocked up, that should last a while

UPDATE , , , My "inground" 20,000 gallon pool is BLUE again this morning and yesterday it was greener than my lawn! Applied two of the 2 lb. bottles to the water yesterday afternoon and this morning the water is blue again but a little cloudy so I vacuumed out the dead algae and added some clarifier to clear up the cloudiness and it's clearing up nicely now. Supposed to be 100 degrees today so now I can go for a swim without coming out looking like Kermit the Frog. Thank you so much for your video and also thank you to HTH Ultimate for this quick and easy repair of the pool water. Every time I go to the pool store they say, "you need this, you need that, you need to do this and you need to do that" while I am thinking "What I NEED is a Bull Dozer to fill the damn thing in"! I will swear by this product from now on and am going to order the large 45lb. bucket that you show in the video. Take the Green New Deal and shove it, I like this Blue Deal! Thanks again. Haha

Bleach, plain old 8.25% bleach. This is your chlorine sanitizer. Get a good test kit, and test daily. Once your pool shocked and stabilized, something that size prob only would take 4 ounces of bleach a day to maintain.

@DaddyDooDooGames
@DaddyDooDooGames 5 жыл бұрын
The salt system is designed to maintain a level of free chlorine, not to clear algae like this. However, Bob's statement of regular bleach is all you need to clear this algae, then the salt system can maintain it. Without a proper test kit and understanding of your CYA levels though, you wouldn't know how much free chlorine to maintain. Best to learn about the basic pool chemistry rather than "dump and pray" chemicals. That pool can be clear and still not totally sanitized and on the brink of algae breakout again

@LJB1031
@LJB1031 5 жыл бұрын
@@michaelhakes5845 Hate to burst your bubble, but sodium chloride is salt, not bleach. Bleach is sodium hypochlorite. In a pool with a salt system, electricity splits off the chlorine from the salt. That is what keeps the pool clean.

@Giusep1181
@Giusep1181 5 жыл бұрын
That’s correct, especially when using a Calcium based shock product that is loaded with fillers (see label, it’s only 50 something % active ingredient)... main reason why the pool is still cloudy / can’t see bottom at the end of this video. Also, I would ask if you have a balanced Stabilizer level ... this is most crucial in a Salt pool, where Unstabilized Chlorine is being produced. Without a stabilizer level (ideal is 50ppm), you won’t maintain a chlorine residual due to the sun burning up your chlorine level as quick as the salt generator produces it. Better off using a 99% (pure no fillers) Sodium Dichlor shock next time 🤓

To preserve the life of your vinyl pool, it would be a good idea to pre-dissolve this product in a bucket and then either pour the bucket in (if you're strong enough to lift such a bucket) or toss pitchers of the mix into the pool. I'm not sure what else is in this product, but the main ingredient is obviously Calcium Hypochlorite (AKA Cal-Hypo.) For the average pool owner, aside from the use of a salt water generator, there are essentially three ways to add chlorine to your pool: Cal Hypo, Sodium Hypochlorite (AKA liquid bleach,) and dichlor/trichlor (slightly different but very similar products.) For all of these methods, you are not only adding chlorine, but you are also adding something else into your pool -- *Calcium* Hypochlorite adds calcium, liquid bleach ( *sodium* hypochlorite) adds salt, and dichlor/trichlor add cyanuric acid (AKA "conditioner.") Additionally, Cal Hypo and liquid bleach (as well as salt water generation) raise your pH (basic) while dichlor/trichlor lowers your pH (acidic.) You should make your decisions on what products to use based upon your current water chemistry, which you can get tested at any local pool store or by ordering a test kit (store it inside.) If your pool's calcium is too high, avoid using Cal Hypo. If your cyanuric acid is too high, avoid using dichlor/trichlor, etc. Since you are using a salt water generator, which raises the pH & doesn't add cyanuric acid into the pool, it would be a good idea to shock it 2-3 times a year with 1 pound (2 lbs if it's green like this) of dichlor/trichlor granulated shock, which is available at any local pool store. (Stir it into a bucket of water as explained before.) This will help keep your cyanuric acid in the 50-100 ppm range and help to offset everything that you've got raising your pH. Once your cyanuric acid is in this range, any additional shock treatments could be done with liquid bleach (unscented & unthickened) or this cal hypo product that you're using here. If your calcium starts getting too high (above 275-300 ppm for vinyl,) you'll have to either quit using this cal hypo product (and go almost exclusively to liquid bleach) or drain the pool.

Yes.....saltwater systems will cause metal parts of the pool to corrode. And yes, you still have to "shock" the water as all the saltwater unit does is maintain chlorine in the pool. Also, as water temp rises, chemical use increases. Keeping a pool clean is a headache as I maintain a 27ft round pool. I feel your pain!

Hi Rebeca, I am not sure if can will follow up. This was a salt water pool so this was a hail mary approach our intention was to be chemical free and we failed as you see. I can tell you if you do get an algae bloom if you flush the filter every couple hours after treatment it does get it clearer faster. There is only so much the filter can hold. If you take some pool water to your local pool supply store they will test it for you and tell you your levels for free and give you advice on what to put in it. Just know they are there to sell so see what works best for your situation. Wish I could be of more help besides what I did here. Good Luck.

I watched this last night then lost your video. Just found again. As I purchased this stuff by mistake thinking was chlorine cpl weeks ago and I had already used to bags of HTC shock 4 in 1 Wed after cpl days hard long rains it turned green after long almost 2 mths getting cleared up after cover fell in 2nd wk of April so I can truly relate to your Opening statement. Had finally got done & enjoyed a day or so last being and taken pictures on 5/27. So Thursday still green I added 7 lbs of baking soda, Fri added 8 oz of algaecide. After viewing this last night I went and added 16 ozs Which is double for my pool and just did the 2 bags on Wed to this Am still greenish blue actually but cannot see the bottom still. First time went out after rain my basket was running over with leaves. Did the 2 bags of shock bk 2 next day another full basket of leaves. Surprised this basket is doing good as been thru aprox 6 or so since the miss hap with crepe myrtle last July. I do not know what to do at this point and never been so frustrated as I was last yr upon getting pool and filled around 27th of May to keeping a beautiful sparkling crystal blue until a crepe myrtle came into bloom beside my pool. So I was bk & forth to a local pool company testing water etc for almost 2 weeks to never got to seeing bottom. I called the pool company out for them to tell me I had chlorine fog. So just quit last yr and ordered my pool cover. So now scared and doing baby steps but want to get bk in my pool. Only thing I see doing as I have not yet is to drain a little water down but I'm thinking I need to backwash but do not wanna loose any possibility of anything put in as this 16 oz of the 7 in 1 last night so now from initial 2 bags htc 4 in 1 from Wed to now additional 16 oz Sat 7 in 1 that is 3-4 lbs as of Sat? Yet pool company last yr had me put 8 or so lbs in at once. To never got cleared. Also reading as I'm very particular how and what it says on these boxes etc. After seeing you spread out over the pool I had used once and it said to gradually pour into filter slowly. My pool is 24x48 and just got a partial deck this year to now wishing I had not. I'm beyond frustration at this point. This pool I did not even want as I mentioned getting a $200 pool someone bought for me. I'm on disability I'm 5' and it's hard for me to get around especially one side sits up higher to vacuum manually to waste and it's literally killed me and my back from extending pole to bending down on my deck and trying to fish in all the debris that had fallen in prior to being able to use my auto vacuum which does a pretty decent job the generic kreepy Krawller and use leaf basket with it. I don't know what to do at this point. I'm gonna go drain some water and thinking possibly vacuum but probably need to reverse this and try to vacuum to waste first. Another issue that's not easy done as the water goes out quickly but I have very low water pressure & literally took a solid week to fill my pool. I can't barely get around or the Auto barely makes one round to pool gets to its min full line area. What size is your pool? You just decided to put to whole scoops of this in? Please any suggestions and sorry long review here. But so feel your frustration & SOME!!Tell your spouse to get his glasses and put up. Lol your funny. I can't believe he's gone that long not missing them lol. Thanks

WOW you sound like you were in the same boat I was in! I have finally given up and let my husband turn it into a catfish pond! I see you wrote another comment let me go read it.

First, vacuum the pool to waste. At this point, you may want to consider draining about 2/3 of the water, change the sand or cartridge in your filter and fill with fresh water. Bring a sample of water to the pool store and follow their instructions. Triple shock it, run the pump 24 hours for about 3 days and test the water again.

Everyone watching. A few things you must consider for safety. Many of these 7:1 or multifunction products contain chlorine with cyanauric acid. The product being used is Cal-Hypo. This has an effect on the pH of the water that will cause it to rise. It’s 56% chlorine vs. liquid pool shock which is 13%. The issue why a pool is green is due to algae (not enough chlorine initially.) This means there was a lack of residual sanitizer. Testing should be done before adding products because. “What we don’t know” can seriously hurt you. Something else to note is that, phosphates feed algae. Typically, a flock of flocculant is a wise idea when the pool looks like that. You also have to brush your pool regularly. @poolenvy

We make ours cycle as natural as possible we use what is called a skippy filter. We put a container/garbage can in the center of the pool with a submersible pump with the green Scott scrub pads to filter through. We also have plants. Used are well water, if you don't have well water that's fine just don't add fish for a bit so the chlorine dissipates. That is it, you just have to resist the urge to clean the bottom or mess with it. Just like a natural pond you do nothing. Every time I do I regret it. We love it. We have bass, brim, gold fish. Ect It is simple this way. There are other ways but this what we do and it is cheap.
