I wonder if there are inks that would behave in the opposite way: disappear with cold, reappear with heat. You could have two different messages, or a shifting summer/winter scene!

Most if not all thermochromic pigments are lighter in their warm state. I don't know the science, but I have a lot of thermal nail polish and know many makers of indie nail polish brands, and have gotten the pigments to play with myself.

They have automotive paint that's colored whatever you want and goes clear with hot water or air applied to it showing a different hidden color or scene underneath

Imagine if a whole class did this. Like the professor sees the papers all filled, but then leaves it in a car, bam fresh tests. Now the professor accidentally uses the papers again. Imagine the confusion when he is looking for the original tests.

Callie’s painting was so simple and yet so perfect. I love the happy little trees, but the colours...magical. I mean...they disappear, so that’s pretty magical anyways, but they’re pretty is what I’m saying.

This is how they do the making bananas unripe, they cover it in erasable ink and use a hairdryer to erase the ink!

I’ve had this happened to me a couple times I never knew what it was but I was walking home from school and I would get overlays on my notes and I’m like what are these why are all my mistakes popping up I live in Canada where it’s really cold

That's wild. The erasable pens have been around since 1979. I was 13 in '79 and I'm sure this was interesting for at least a few minutes. . . before I was once again distracted by girls and the other things 13 year olds are fascinated by. But it took until today for me to discover the wizardry behind this ink. Bravo TKOR! You taught me something entirely new AND interesting!

I don't think so, temperature is important for this specific ink but you can buy UV invisible ink pens online and do something similar.

Yes you can. Just use an iron. My mother is using those pens to trace patterns on fabric.

@TKOR You should see if you can find ink or paint or something that does the opposite of this ink (vanish when cold and appear when hot) and, on the same canvas make a painting with each and then you can switch between the 2 paintings by changing the color. Or even make them paintings that would look cool if combined so that you can make cool art by only changing the temp on some areas.

You guys are I best I cant wait to have kids and for use to pull up old videos or the king of random book and just have fun picking a project and making it happen this one in particular seems vary fun and cool for everyone I can imagine the excitement on their face when I go want to a painting appear in seconds and right infront of their eyes it changes from nothing into a hugh world of colors

Use the ink in a tattoo gun and test on meat. Also use ink to put logos on thermal cups that can transition from hot to cold(kinda already been done but would be cool to see a diy)

Doing things with other thermochomatic materials would be fun. There’s those temperature strips that are used on foreheads and fish tanks. Cutting them all apart would be arduous, but pasting them together into a heat activated mosaic sounds awesome!

Sweet! So I can make a portrait of my face, hang it above the fireplace and watch the expressions of my family as my portrait face turns sour and scary before their eyes late at night. Then its a week in the freezer to reuse on the next gathering.

It’d be VERY difficult, but it’d be really cool if you could have 4 sets of ink that responded to temperature throughout the year, to reveal a different picture for winter, autumn, summer, and spring average temperatures

This is MOSTLY true. Some erasable inks are simply a thicker, non absorbing ink, that rubs off. But those glorious Pilot Frixion pens are absolutely heat related. Love those.
