Awesome. Trying to get a few ideas. To buy a small used metal carport as a beginning for a small horse barn. Great you all worked as a family, as I’m watching- I’m trying to figure how I can manage to do some of the heavier more cumbersome portion by myself, As it’s always an uphill battle to get any help from my wife or children… So I’m kinda on my own, so have to be very creative.

Why did they recommend you start at the top? I would think you’d want the seems overlapping the way you built it to prevent water running down inside it.

Barn looks great! I’m going to do the same with my 20X20. How did you guys brace the 4X6 post to the top rails?

We used “L” brackets to brace ours up

I'm considering doing this to our carport for the same reason as making it into a goat barn. I'm curious if you guys did anything to make a door on it? Also, out of curiosity, what's the general location of your farm?

Did you put a ridge vent on the roof are you having a problem with any condensation everything I read you have to put in a ridge vent on it to be able to close it up without having condensation problems I live in Whidbey Island Washington I would really appreciate the answer how to vent it properly

We haven’t had any issues with condensation but it is very open so it allows a lot of air circulation right now. The way we ran our tin the ridges run lengthways so that allows for it to let condensation and heat out but I would talk with some local barn builders in your area to make sure that would work. How warm does this stay in the winter

It stays close to the same temp as outside since it has an open alleyway but it helps keep the wind and rain off the livestock inside. We are probably going to add some doors on this year just to be able to block even more wind etc off on any animals we have inside

We haven’t yet. We plan on doing so when lumber prices calm down but for now we have used it with temporary stalls and use it for brooding our meat chickens before they go out to the chicken tractor

How much tin did you buy

I can't remember the exact count. I will try to find our invoice and get back to you but I believe the total cost for the tin was right around $1000 and that was also enough tin to replace the old roof. The quotes we where getting from companies to enclose it for us on up in the $1000s that we decided to just do it ourselves.

I'm thinking about inclosing my carport. I already have tin on the sides I just need to inclose the two ends but I'm wanting to make a storage/shop out of mine and cement floor with a roll-up door. I think I have enough materials to do this I just need the know how.
