Good morning Dave. Up early again this time about 4:45 A.M. Just getting to some of the comments and questions that are piling up. The billings symposium is all over, Allen Jensen is very good and we had a good time. He might be a good demonstrator to have visit the club sometime. He did bowls, Platters, and a really good demo on hollowing using the visualizer. Mike would like that I'm sure. He is also a master at texturing. John, I know right? Turning with the opposite hand is not that difficult and can just improve your turning so much. But mostly it is all about turning in a comfortable position. Thanks very much Sam

Like 90%+ of woods out there it can cause eye and skin irritation to those sensitive to it, it just happens to have as one of its common names 'black poison wood' but it isn't poisonous as such. All wood dust is considered carcinogenic so just keep the dust down.

Rick, I use several different things for wet sanding my pieces. First I should say I almost never use water. It's not a good idea to introduce water to raw wood. This may interfere with the finish that you apply. Sometimes you can wet sand with the finish you are going to use, like poly or varnish or even linseed oil. You can thin those down with some mineral spirits to make them less thick. But one item I usually go to first is something you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot. It is a citrus degreaser found in the cleaning department. You can buy this in a small spray bottle and is relatively safe and easy-to-use. The brand name that I use to use is ZEP. When I am done with sanding with this I usually clean the surface off with paint thinner. Hope this helps Sam

David, yes I certainly sign every piece I make. I Use a Pyrography burner to do that. Sam

Patty, sometimes I just use regular old shellac. Or I you shellac as a sealer/ base and then put something on top of it. I have several products that I use friction polish. One of them is EEE and Shellawax. EEE is really an abrasive that is combined with a finish. Then I use shella wax or some similar friction polish over it. I also like the stuff that craft supplies sells. I think it is made by Behlen Thanks Sam

I guess that would work. But that is a lot of work-changing the position of the tool rest etc. I really don't think anyone would do that. Sam

These jaws are longer but the opening diameter for a compression fixing is actually slightly smaller than standard 2" jaws. The longer jaw set allows me to get in around the base a little easier. But really a good question.....Thanks Sam

Tom, I see many turners, including very famous-well known turners who wear a watch. I really feel there is little or no chance a watch will get caught up in wood or a chuck. If I felt there was anything unsafe, I would not show it in a video. Sam
