Hi everyone, here is a quick update to our greenhouse project from our old garden shed. In this update I have installed the wood onto the walls and put a couple of shelves in. We have also installed a 6” ventilation fan at the peak to remove the hot air once it reaches 25 degree Celsius. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions for what we can add or improve!

This is an awesome video, and plan to replicate the shed-to-greenhouse idea where I live. As the colder months move in, could you report back on lessons learned and the overall effectiveness of the design? Thanks for sharing great information!

Been thinking about what I can do with my old shed. Too big to sell/move. Too expensive to throw away. Appreciate the idea spark

Could you please do another follow up with your greenhouse as the weather gets colder? We are thinking about doing something similar to what you are doing (converting a shed to a greenhouse and insulating the northern wall), but I have no idea how well the greenhouse would retain heat. We live in Southern Ontario (Zone 5) and it'll be awesome to see your experience with your greenhouse this season.

I will do a follow up video very soon! It is currently only about -8 here at night and I wanted to see how much it might cost in deep winter (-20ish) when I do my follow up since I do have to heat the greenhouse overnight. So far the cost is not noticeable. I am hoping to install more passive heating but just haven’t had the chance yet. ✌🏻

@@plntfriends I live in Ontario as well and only using the greenhouse for vegetables, herbs etc so not going to be using it in the winter, as thus not concerned about insulating it, but wonder what suggestions you would make for the summer heat? Does it get too hot in the room and is air circulation an issue? Thanks

Hi, if you are only using to extend the summer goring seasons, I would install a solar powered ventilation fan to the roof, or some of those pop out panel vents that work on the warming of the hydraulic fluid in the ram. Ventilation is definitely required as my greenhouse last year with none, reached 72*C haha

@@plntfriends What are the pop out panel vents? I suppose it could be expensive to add a solar powered ventilation fan?
@plntfriends

Things are not as expensive now as they used to be. The window pop outs are just a gas type of shock, that opens a window as it expands in the heat and then closes once it cools down enough

How well did it do in the winter, about how long does the heater run, when it's about what temperature outside?
@plntfriends
@plntfriends 2 жыл бұрын
Did pretty well until under -10c, at -25 it was game over. Heat cost a bit, but was worth it still in my opinion so not too much cost

Looks really nice! I'm doing a full ceiling so I guess I'm going to need some type of fan. You sound Canadian so I know your weather is even more harsh than ours in winter. I'm subscribing because it looks like you may have great tips on propagation. Thanks for sharing this!

Cheers, you should send a photo or video when yours is completed! Yes I am up in zone 2A which is challenging to say the least. Thanks so much for subscribing!🙏🏻

Came here because we are doing the same! Wondering why you didn't just do a gravel floor?

My shed already had a wooden floor, and I thought I would try to insulate it from the cold ground as well

What do you do in the winter to keep plants warm?
@plntfriends

Currently I have a small radiator heat in the greenhouse that will cycle on when the temperature drops to 13 Celsius. I am looking to do more passive heating as a long term goal which will be another video this spring once I finish designing

I have an aluminum and stare at it every day. 10x10 I think. Why did you decide on one exposure instead of both sides?
@plntfriends
@plntfriends Жыл бұрын
Hi Debra, I chose the one side only because the other side of my shed faces north and is somewhat blocked by my home. It really doesn’t get much sunlight and so I chose to insulate for colder temperatures since I am in zone 2. I would love an all glass greenhouse though if I could make it practical!

Hey! So from the original video where I had the insulation and vapour barrier in already, all I have done is cut and screw the floor boards and wallboards into place. I also used a hole saw to cut my ventilation for my 8” fan at the peak and used a dryer type of vent. There wasn’t that many steps and so I didn’t think to film them. Looking back maybe I should have
