I bought a used low-cost laptop locally from a buy sell trade app and turned it into Portable Retro Emulation Machine that will run GameCube Dreamcast PS1 and more Using Batocera Linux! With an AMD A9200 @ 2.0Ghz, I think this was a pretty good deal at $50

I think in like a year we can expect to see rpcs3 implemented in this image since they are making so much headway with Linux.

OpenGL performance is actually pretty great for AMD on Linux, way better than on windows. At least for GCN 4th gen, probably also for 3rd gen and 2nd gen but setting up drivers on those might be a bit more challenging

Very cool. I have batocera linux on an old Acer AspireOne netbook with 2GB RAM and Atom CPU. I found an extended capacity/hump pack battery for 15$ on amazon. It's my favorite portable retro battle station.

The graphics on this processor (amd stoney ridge) are gcn 1.2 and so should be in good shape under opengl on Linux (better than windows, as the windows open gl implementation is slow), though dx11 and especially Vulcan or dx12 would be even better

Well, I think we can safely say windows will run on this, and obviously Linux distributions, but how well does Android x86 run and how does it compare to some of your other salvaged laptops (assuming you kept them all.)

Impressive I have two controllers that I will need to use for my aging HP 1138tx entertainment laptop. I only use my laptop for old skool gaming. runs perfectly fine with my intel centrino 2 inside cpu. p8400 CPU at 2.26ghz dual core.

That is a Stoney Ridge CPU which only supports single channel memory. The Quad core Bristol ridge based CPU's support dual channel.

I found that out the hard way when i went to upgrade my wife's a6-5200 laptop and saw no improvement when i added another 4GB stick of DDR3@1600.... SSD helped tho.

We are at the point in life where we can buy a console sized Alienware PC for around $250-$400 depending on specs. The best part of emulation is its getting easier and easier to pull it off. Great video!!!!!

ETA PRIME, could you do videos on how to setup the emulators for the best performance? I have better hardware than what you show in these videos but it runs WAY worse on my system. Seeing Dolphin run so smooth on a 2ghz laptop hurts my soul.

@@jacob-spring windows operating system is HEAVY compared to Batocera or almost any other linux distro. I haven't had the best luck with GameCube emulation on windows either and I have robust hardware as well. Going to try this stuff out, either with a spare PC or dual booting my main desktop into Batocera.

Ironically this laptop is newer than my main one a amd c60, I did put batocera 32 bits on an atom n270 laptop for nes, genesis and snes emulation. Sadly new systems would run slowly. The screen make it better since you don't need a monitor.

Laptops are nice. Compact, no wires laying around, and never have to dig out a mouse or keyboard... Makes a good gift to kids or old people when you're done with it.

I have this wyse thin client wich im willing to turn into an emulation pc and also want to put it in a case with arcade josytics do you know if batocera will be compatible with the jamma2pc interface or is there any way to make it work ? i know usb controllers is way easier but i have that jamma2pc thing with no use

I am trying to instal this to a Core I5 2400, GT 530 1GB with 16gb of ram but i cannot manage to get it to install on the SSD of this system. I dont want to boot from some USB device i want it to be running as main OS on this PC. Are the servers down or something ?

Where can I find the memory card file for GameCube on that program you are using? My old pc died and I was heavy in to fire emblem on GameCube I would rather not start over... I have the memory card file just no idea where it goes on the program you are using. Is it the same way as dolphin or different?

Hey guys -What can I do with an old Lenco Tablet - Its a CoolTab-70 - So far I just factory reset it and put retro arch on and made it a Gameboy/Gameboy Color (everything else is choppy) It has Android 4.1 i think.

Same here I use Laptop with AMD A10 9620P clock at 2.5 GHz up to 3.4 GHz with single 8gb DDR4 clock to 2133 and can run almost anything in 2 to 3x resolution except PCSX2 while GameCube still have hiccup but playable, and I still play Skyrim SE with few enchance graphic mod and I can run it to mix between medium and high setting in 720p (coz the laptop screen have weird resolution it's 1366x768) to get playable framerate while maintain the visual in game look better than Skyrim SE Vanilla.

Ugh, those weird laptop screen resolutions drive me crazy. Looks decent enough at native res tho while you're playing. And helps the hardware to keep up better with some games.

I have two old i5 laptop's...one is a Toshiba Satellite and The other Is an HP. I think I will turn one of them into a retro station. Maybe both. Don't think I'll need to upgrade HDD...the Toshiba has issues with blu-ray drive but again..I will strictly be using for a retro station. Maybe get a new Blu-ray drive later or if it isn't too difficult to fix I might fix the one that's in there..I forget if WiFi card still works or not but have lan cable...and after converting I won't need WiFi anymore. So, I'm assuming all I really need to do is get batocera??

Which OS would be better, UBUNTU or WIN7?, I have a fx6300 8 gigs memory, Radeon hd 5750 card. I feel Windows would work better because they AMD has more mature drivers than Linux.. Does RetroPi works for Windows aswel?

how was the setting for gamecube emulator? it runs great, mine using AMD A8 with 4C/4T + Radeon R5 iGPU with 8GB dual channel of Ram, it doesnt runs great on gamecube emulator Batocera

Hi ETA Prime and Chat section peeps. I have just acquired an intel Pentium G3258 (anniversary cpu) Msi H81i motherboard (can overclock G3258) and 8gb DDR3 1600mhz ram. What sort of emulators do you think I can run at 60fps and what GPU would you recommend to compliment this setup? (going to try 4.5ghz overclock once I get an aftermarket cooler)

Interesting, I have a laptop with the a similar processor (amd a6 6310) and 8gb of ram but gamecube games run at terrible frame rates in dolphin emulator. I wonder why your laptop runs dolphin so much better.

When installing linux based systems on laptops, are there any graphics issues? I have a old hp compaq presario f700 and when i try to install linux based systems the screen is really messed up. Bad enough to where i cant even install Ubuntu on it.

How do I know if my laptop Acer aspire 7250 can handle what emulated games? I am ignorant on most the stuff you were saying like ssd, 2 gig for cpu, et.c.

acer aspire 7250 came with a 1-1.7 ghz chip, 2 cores and should have come with 4 gigs of RAM. It's iffy but should handle a lot of this stuff, not all.

What front end would you use on a laptop that is not powerful enough for Launchbox? ... i would use botacera but i want Killer Instinct Arcade to be playable ... arcade project ... any suggestions that has a hotkey?
