Decided to put my skills to the test and create something out of free pallet wood. I chose to build a standing desk table top since i thought it wouldn't be too complex...
Thank you to todays sponsor Sengled!

Pallets are only free wood if you either A- Don't value your time -or - B- Plan on using them as pallets. Either way, it looks really nice. I like the way you embraced the natural rustic look of the wood and didn't try to hide it. Also, love the color choice.

Huge kudos for pushing outside your comfort zone, that's how you grow. Ditto on everything the guy said about table saw safety, and with all that dust in the air, ya might wanna upgrade to something like a 3M 7503 halfmask respirator, they're not expensive and the filters will keep 100% of that sawdust outta your lungs. Some wood particulates can be downright dangerous to inhale, and you have zero ventilation in there so don't mess around with that. And just a heads up on the build, when you're applying stain, a sealer, whatever, it's really important to hit all surfaces, top and bottom, equally. Not sure if you hit the bottom with sealer so just wanted to mention that. Reason being, wood absorbs moisture, it's just what wood does...if you have a sealer on the top and not the bottom, its gonna absorb more moisture from the air on the bottom and start to shift, warp, twist, etc., which can cause the boards to start pulling apart. Plus you already have some gaps throughout (you actually needed to use quite a bit more glue, there should be enough to where a little bit is pushed out along the seems when you tighten up your clamps), so air is gonna get into those gaps and hit the bare wood thus absorbing even more moisture, thus creating more potential wood shifting, twisting, gettin its freak on and ultimately pulling apart. I know it's like an experimental project so not trying to be critical, I think it looks great overall, a desk with a real wood top like that would run you $800 on Uplift. Just giving you a little insight as to some of the problems that might crop up as the wood adjusts to your interior humidity and potentially starts to shift so you know why its happening and can adjust if needed.

Looks good, but I think you misjudged the age of that planer by a few decades. To me that looks like a 60s, 70s tops machine....

The gloves while using the table saw.....AND no outfeed support... making it so you have to work around the blade even more. YIKES, I cringed really hard. it's literally not even worth the risk even once no matter how cautious you are, but great video non the less!! the desk turned out amazing, trash into treasure is a great feeling!

also for all the cracks, just fill them up with glue and wipe the excess BEFORE sanding and sand while its still wet. it will fill the gaps in just fine. ultra wood working haxx.

I totally agree, caught myself in some sketchy scenarios so it's definitely sometime to keep in mind next time. Appreciate the feedback tho!

The tabletop is crooked, the cracks are not sealed. You need more effort, I think
