I work in a hospital as a case manager. I often see patients that are homeless, and living in their car not by choice but reality. Most have phones or/and a tablet and I always tell them about this channel because so many of them are sleeping in the drivers seat or passengers seat and don't realize they can make it a lot more comfortable and functional. And also avoid getting blood clots in their legs from sleeping in such a compromised position. A lot of them have money from retirement or working a job and just need ideas to fix up their car or van into a more homey place, safe and make their lives easier.

I lived in a ‘95 Toyota Tacoma off and on for the past 20 years. Now, rents are going sky high here in Prescott AZ,. ..so I bought a ‘97 Fleetwood Tioga and I’m boon docking for the next year and putting money away as I still have a decent job. I hope I’ll be fully Nomadic and working seasonal jobs by spring of 2024. Cheers for all the work you do getting info out there for folks like us who are fed up with Greedy Landlords.

I PUT OUT bark to keep down weeds and mytaxes went up ! It was " improvments !! Every time someone moved out we spent hundreds disposin% of tr!sh at the dump !! Had to replace stoves , friges floors heaters !! And. The renter was not paying enough to pay the payment on the house !! Some may be greedy but we were not ! We could not discriminate either !!

Try being a landlord. I bought property because I have no pension. Taxes 4 times a year, new roof, 2 furnaces, other repairs to the tune of 10k and still not done.

Bob, you’ve done it again! You find the nicest people who just continue to fill that nomad community with their kindness, smarts and acceptance of living on the road. I’ve been off the road for a year and plan to head out to Arizona December 1. With my van converted and I’m uncertain if I will pull my camper or not. I pay $15 a month to pull my 18 foot camper. it is like having a small studio apartment but again I just might head out with my converted van and my two dogs. Hope to see you at the RTR again. Best of luck, Robert! You made a great decision.

Also, it isn't necessary to drive 2,000 miles away from where you live to do this, as there are plenty of places to camp all over the country. I realize that Bob is in Arizona, since he's doing RTR, and there is lots of cheap deals for the winter.

Your RV is very nice!! I want to do something like this. I recently went month to month on my apartment lease so I’m not locked in and can leave when I choose. I was illegally terminated (official determination from OSHA after year long investigation) from my school bus driving job and received a small settlement. I relocated and am currently driving school bus while seeking a better job. Had a Skywest flight attendant interview last week that didn’t go well because all interviewer cared about was why I wasn’t working for a year. No matter what I say it isn’t going to look good for me, so I just said I took time off. I’m entitled to that, right? But no can do! I had no chance from that point on, even though I’d make the perfect flight attendant. Very deflating. Funny how we’re criticized for not working yet criticized for pursuing a job. Can’t win. It’s really disgusting in this country that the only thing cared about is work, work, work! So anyway, with my measly $10,000 I’m wanting freedom more than ever. I have a new Hyundai Tucson SUV with a tow package rating of 1500. Not a whole lot I can do with that, but there are a few possibilities to go really light just to get me started. I can’t bear the idea of enduring another six month Wisconsin winter approaching. Anyway, that’s my situation and after being shot down for a better opportunity and one I really wanted, I’m thinking of moving on. Not like I couldn’t still pursue a job I really would enjoy while living out of my home on wheels.

For anyone thinking they want the Nomad life, they can always take the weekend and visit a local campground like Robert said he first did and see how they enjoy it. We did a lot of tent camping when our children were going up and people were always friendly at local campgrounds. There are "rustic" campgrounds locally as well.

If you have an awning use it to collect water when it rains. I use to keep a 55 gal drum or a 275 cube at the end of awning. Lower one side a little more on that side. I used a cheap pool float to direct water into barrel. Then used a 12 v transfer pump to pump into camper. You have a filter in your camper so use it for shower, toilet and dishes and plants. I dod that for 6 yrs before i put a well on my land. Good luck.

I totally relate to this guy! Granted, I currently work remotely, have been for several years but for me it's the prospect of a potential 110% rent increase that terrifies me! I simply will not be able to afford that if/when it comes. So, for the past year I have been looking into Vanlife/BoxTruck life. The idea of continuing the "work/rent" cycle and having nothing to show for it is just too depressing and at my age, terrifying! I'm 57yrs old, I have some physical ailments but nothing so dier that it keeps me from maintaining a full-time job. So, I'm lucky there. I don't own a car so a tow trailer is out of the question. I know I'll be wanting to spend my time split between urban and more rural settings so I'm leaning towards a box truck for the "stealth" aspect. I've been making a list of gear that I will need. I've been downsizing and getting rid of stuff I just don't need/use anymore. My wardrobe has been pared down considerably since I work remotely, t-shirts and sweats are my FRIENDS! I don't have any family stuff anymore, due to a very devastating break-up some years ago where my ex's father literally had a bonfire with ALL my belongings, except the clothes I managed to pack in my old Navy Sea Bag, my laptop (at the time), and my dog (RIP). So, rebuilding a life for myself has been slow and piecemeal. Honestly, I have learned to live with so much less and I'm OK with that! I'm not worried about not being close to family as my parents both passed away a little over a year ago (two months apart), I'm not close to my brother or my cousins. I only have my son, who's in his thirties. He currently lives with me, but I'm looking forward to him moving out and freeing myself up to hit the road! My soul has always been a wanderer anyway. I grew up in the midwest but as a young adult, I joined the Navy and caught the "on the move" bug early. I have moved around so often that I don't like to have too many "things" to have to move.

Where can you park legllly, other than a handy local deert. Anywhere else, knocks on the door at 2am.! My choice would be a 15 foot vehicle. Doesn´t So much smaller - but so much less qorry. I´ve almost convinced myself!draw as much attention, less fuel, easier to park.
