i think the problem people have is its insincere cringe. they do subtle but cool anime flourishes, easily talk out groups, do full freestyle dances in public, have immense swagger but theyre supposed to be dorks. A lot of boys cant relate since its the stuff theyd shrink into nothingness for trying to be cool for. imagine if booty bumping had the reputation of the naruto run.

In 95 years, when the rights of this movie go into the public domain, and it gets the "Winnie Pooh treatment" of having someone make it into a horror parody, that's exactly what's going to happen. Mei's mom humiliates her, she snaps, discovers her powers, and uses them to kill everyone who tormented her.

You say it’s cringe, but I’d love to argue it’s very accurate to nerdy adolescent girl coming of age. Even less cringe than it could be. My friends cosplayed as homestuck, hetalia, and black butler cosplays(like full on, wigs an all) to school frequently, rolling around in the hallways at lunch. It was cringe for me then, and it is horrifying now. But it’s part of that coming of age.

@@stormwright8300 yeah, I remember hearing about that, and the reason Mei's mum didn't like Miriam was meant to build on that aspect. But as always the big wigs are willing to cut things just to appeal to countries with less human rights just for money. Seems a bit messed up when you describe it that way. I mean we're still fighting for rights and representation in the "free west" but are so quick to throw away all progress and our right to freedom of speech and expression just to appeal to countries that, for lack of a better phrase, violate human rights just for a quick buck.

Honestly, I never got why people call this movie “cringe”. Like… it’s literally just about a girl and her friends being friends, being besties and stuff. But then I watched this video, and… apparently, that’s what people find cringe about it. Just the girls getting along and hanging out like friends do. Like… why is it okay when guys do that, but when girls do it it’s “cringe”? Like… honestly, I’d argue the boys from _South Park_ are more cringe, because they’re always bickering and doing stupid $h!t.

I have this dread of seeing this film as when I go to my uncle’s house for events, my aunt always play this movie for my baby cousin as it either helps her sleep or to distract her (only half the time), sometimes even plays it twice on the same day. I’m so sick of this movie and once I mentioned it to another cousin of mine, she said she watched it daily with her girlfriend and knowing it’s one of her faves, I would believe it.
