Turning woods into hay field with Allis Chalmers Tractors! It is a hard task most times to turn woods into pasture especially in south central Missouri where the soil contains rocks, trees, and hills. We are using our Allis Chalmers 8030 and Allis Chalmers 180 tractors to turn this dirt over and get it ready to plant before fall. The Allis Chalmers 8030 is pulling a 16ft field cultivator and the Allis Chalmers 180 is pulling a 16 ft field disc. The field cultivator is being used to turn the soil over and remove vegetation while also smoothing and leveling the ground out and then the disc is brought over the cultivated soil to break it up more, chop some vegetation debris, and level out the field more.

Love watching the allis chalmers tractors at work. What's model is that 8000 series FWA?

What's not to love? They are amazing tractors and were way ahead of their time. Our 8000 series is an 8030 MFWD.

you should call it a digger rather than a cultivator cuz you know it will be pulling up those boulders like we do in Minnesota 😃😃

You ain't lying it pulled up a few, but with all the ones we had on the surface already it was hard to tell there was more there 😂

Could you have moldboard plowed that?
@FreedomFarmsMo
@FreedomFarmsMo 10 ай бұрын
The problem with mold boarding in south central Missouri is the rocks. We do not have a lot of top soil, and right below the soil is a lot of rocks and poor soil. Even the topsoil we do have has a lot of rocks in it as well. So mold boarding would bring all the rocks to the surface and put the topsoil under it

Molboard plow would have worked great and probably saved time.

That's not a very good option here in south central Missouri. We have a lot of rocks in our soil and very little top soil. A mold board would bring a lot more rocks up and put worse soil at the surface of our field. It just isn't practical here

Just goes to show one size doesn't fit farming practices everywhere. I spoke out of turn. My apologies.@@FreedomFarmsMo

Seems ironic that last year we were pleading for rain yet it has rained so much I've only got 2/3rds of the hay done as since the end of June we have only had one period of 7 days of good weather. Unlike what seems common in the US we only make one crop of hay a year on any one field other than those who make silage though they use a lot more fertiliser

Wow, that is a lot of moisture! We are in a little bit of a dry spell now, it hasn't rained in about 3 weeks. I could use some rain to help with this dirt work on the hay field. This is actually gonna be the first year we will do a second cut on our farm.

You're more than welcome to some this time last year it was the first bit of rain we had had since May everything was brown. I'm grazing one I planned to make hay in as there is going to be a large wet spot as it can get soft in a normal year. But it could be worse I could be arable where a lot here still haven't finished harvest around here. I think we prayed too hard in May/June for rain when we didn't have any during those months that grass was heading out with only an inch of leaf growth as other than a week in April we hadn't had warm days and rain. It was damp but nothing was growing.
