We've made some great progress so far but we've hit a snag along the way. It's time for some good research and assessing to find our path and build this thing right!
Don't miss out!

We're getting there! Just need to sort this hiccup and then we should be on the home stretch 🤞 What do you think? All uploaded at once or part 1 out as soon as possible? 🤔

Hi Sean, my preference would be to put part 1 out as soon as possible, again highlighting the issue you have re. adherence on liner. That would get the issue out to more people, who may just have the answer you're seeking. Also continue your testing regime. My very quick input would be to look at pond repair tape, or "great stuff" expanding foam that a lot of herpetologists use. I hate the thought that you've invested so much time, effort, and money in this for failure to be an option. Your philosophy re. damaging the house and potential issues on moving are very valid.

Looking at the thumbnail, the wooden crate is very advanced. With your DIY skills could you buy pre-cut glass, and just build a tank inside the crate. The wooden structure would give it structural stability, which may also mean a thinner glass might be used, possibly with some foam underlay to allow for imperfections where the glass touches the wood. The unused liner could be used for a future project e.g. an above-ground pond outdoors supported by a DIY framework (transportable to a new home, and leaving no trace on the landlord's property), or sold second-hand. An expensive option though.

Hi Jean! A few people have said the same so I'll definitely get to work on part 1 asap! :) That's a great idea but sadly I looked into glass and it'd weigh minimum 100kg for the thickness I'd need. Typically wouldn't be an issue but I've already got the 7ft aquarium that's a nightmare to move aha. I'm looking into fibreglass and epoxy at the moment, it holds some potential but I need to do a lot more research before committing to it! Thanks Jean 😄

Hello saun I have been thinking about the same wooden tank with viewing window I am glad I watched your video on silicon with pond liner .apoxi with /fiberglass very good as I understand it I have two ideas that are as good in my handyman opinion the grout that they use in swimming pools with ceramic tiles .or food safe/kitchen safe pvc sheet sealed petty much as you would an aquarium .your seales need to be solid rigid no movement very important. I have more to ad but hope this helps for now tom

Thanks Tom! I've committed to the fibreglass now so we'll see how it goes haha. I've never used it before but everything I've seen and read online suggest it's easy enough (the only downside being the cost...). The aquarium safe silicone should adhere to it no problem at all too! Fingers crossed 🤞 Thanks for watching 😄

I say, take your time. If you put out a video now, it might make you feel rushed to finish the job. I think you should take your time and don’t feel like you have to rush. I can’t wait to see it either way!

I might post part 1 late next month or early May, that'll give me some time but I completely agree I definitely won't rush it, risk compromising the quality or integrity or the of the build. If it takes longer then it takes longer. Thanks Benji! 😄

I don't know if it'll help you any but Ohio fish rescue did a tank where they painted a liner onto there to their tank that they already had made with wood and they used a special resin epoxy stuff which worked really good it's non-toxic to the animals and it works really good and it lasts for a long time it's a nonprofit rescue so they don't really have all the money in the world to spend big bucks to have something that doesn't work so they need to get it done fast and for less money this might be something you want to look into it called Ohio fish rescue

That's one of the methods I've been considering! I'm currently looking into doing that along with fibreglass for some added reinforcement! I'll check them out, see what they've done. Thank you!! :)
